how can i turn my pc into server ?

i have laptop ..
1.8 centrino
512 MBRam
100 GB
and i want to turn it into online server to host my personal site .. ?

download and install apache http server

You can get all these things free, and sometimes even included on linux Distros.

You could also run EasyPHP as well, which comes with PHP and MySQL already installed.

I suggest using Linux over windows for hosting domain names. Maybe something like Slackware 10.2 or Redhat. If you use Slackware 10.2 get someone to help you install it because it can be a tricky Linux distro to install, but if you install it properly it can be pretty good.

I managed to install slackware first try, but after that, when i had to install again, i could not get the stupid thing to work. :)

I agree, slackware is one of the best distros about, it just takes a degree in rocket science to install it :P

msi? umm.. That mean you are using windows :) the software you installed is only the apache. Here is a bundle pack which i find the best. It is known as appserv.

Go and download the latest bundle with matching the php version which you want to have ;)
