No. Unix is based on a system developed by AT&T. Linux was a system developed 15 (?) years later and was very heavily inspired by unix. Linux nowadays uses most of the programs originally written for Unix.
Some people claim that unix is still more stable+reliable than linux. Unix OSes are: FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Solaris, HP UX, IBM AIX....many many more.

Most of those *nixes you mentioned are also unix copies, and not actually unix based.

Never, ever, ever use AIX. People in the industry call it "Awful IX". Horrible to work with and so picky.
HP-UX is pretty good though.

Semantics. :-)
