WTF! liek an't I jst the cutst darned thng youv eva seen?

Anyway, why do people insist on using shorthand words like IMO (In my Opinion) or lol (Laugh out Loud)? Because they're lazy? Or is it because they think it is a standard?

The shorthand abbreviations/acronyms, whatever you want to call it is NOT a standard, people CHOOSE to use it. And whenever you do, you're basically makin' an arse outta yourself because all of those things are basically not spelled correctly or not words in the english dictionary. If you want to use them, use them correctly and in ALL CAPS so that Microsoft Word doesn't throw a fit at you.

But yeah, I think it ain't a standard, so what do you think or want to elaborate on the issue at hand?

I've got a question for you:

Why do you post so many useless things? You answer me that, and I'll answer you this.

DarkBlood
March 4th, 2006, 21:16
Because: postcount here is worth a damned; I haven't always posted useless things and I am getting rusty; I like randomness; I used to spam a whole lot when I was not on here; ....

Well, here's my answer, as promised.

This is largely used by those who do not have quick enough fingers, or feel that writing out the whole word makes them sound 'old' and not 'in sync'. This may also be used when one has a drink in one hand and pizza in the other and can only make a few keystrokes.

Think that it's the standard, I would hope not. I would hope that those using the internet don't feel that they have to dumb themselves down to 'fit in' with the rest of the internet.

Um, Word will still throw a fit at you unless you have the "Ignore words in ALL CAPS" option ticked in the spell checker settings.

Hey, I'm only replying because I made a promise.

But spam is not. It's this logic that I hate...

Well whatever the case, I got an answer outta yeh. But that's still beside the point... I type all the time with normal words spelled out, but then again That's just me. Unfortunately, I have other things I hate about these silly things, like making jests with the

I'm right here son. You see, people like to type like this:

yo sup man u c da koolest sheete eva?1 wrd

because it makes it seem like they're the "Dog" and "With it" by talking like Eminem would do in real life. You see, people are much cooler with bad grammar and using fake words, because, some day, they will too become a millionaire rap star.

lmao, I dont see any rules saying I can use shorthand. lol
Also text messaging on cell phones helped shorthand become popular. In fact to send the message LOL you had to punch in 555 666 555 so shorthand saved alot of time and was alot safer if you were driving.

It's not against the rules to use shorthand, you just look like a complete and utter tool when you do.

...is all I'm saying.

That's just annoying most of the time. Maybe I should really consider enabling the option on IPB where it automatically capitalizes or gets rid of extra ?s or !s

People talk shorthand because its quicker yet understandable. 'lol' however has become a word in itself I believe.

More of an acronym. If it was a true word, it would be pronounced "lawl" or "lul"

aggiedude

psh...i do it out of pure habit now. 5 years chatting with people under the age of 18 will do it to you.

I'm just used to it for using chat proggies (irc/aim/mmorpg chats) for eight years now. It's much more faster, and... well.. to type 'Hahaha!' or 'That's so funny!' or 'I'm laughing so hard here!' repetitively is so much more annoying than a simple 'lol.'

More of an acronym. If it was a true word, it would be pronounced "lawl" or "lul"I saw 'lawl' outloud numerously. >_>

I use a lot of shorthand when I am in AIM or such, but I can't keep up with all the new ones. I just learned what FTW meant yesterday because I finally asked in a IRC chat.

Next time I meet a person who talks like the indicated post in my first post, I'm just going to either

A.] Up and leave.
B.] Harken back to the days I spent my years doing it and then barrage the person with words or phrases s/he does not understand.

B would be for a person who does it repediately... .... Excuse me for a moment.

*whacks a n00b talking person whilist explaining something in a weird language*

for some reason.. some people don't know what some acronyms mean. either they're really old acronyms, or relatively noobies that know nothing, or... i dont know! i just can't explain it.

i don't know how many times i've said 'afk' on aim and they've responded 'what?' or 'what's afk?'

-cringe-

they only know lol, wtf, lmao, rofl, asl, qt (anymore?), . . . . i forgot any other aol acronyms popular in 2000-2002 :'(
