There are many reputable registrars. namecheap.com and godaddy.com seem the most popular of the under $10 group. I personally use namesecure.com, domainnamesystems.com and ev1servers.com (ev1 is also under $10)

I use namecheap.com. I have bought 3 domains from them and nothing has ever gone wrong.
A lot of major companies use godaddy.com.

I only use www.netfirms.com. Their domains are only $4.95 a year and you have complete control over the domain name. Cheapest I have ever seen.

Add your credit card to paypal account and buy your domain using paypal. You know, you can get domains through yahoo and then transfer after 60 days or so to the registrar of your choice
