Now I don't usually turn off my computer. Always leave it turned off and just log out from my xp profile.

But for some yesterday morning I decided to turn it off. :(

6pm my sister calls me and says internet is not working.
No big deal I think, i'll fix it when i get back home from work.

So I get back home and look at the pc.
sure enough internet dosnt work.

in network connections I have my lan and my wireless connection.

I try to disable/enable the wireless but it still displays a red X on it. when I click enable it goes thruh 2 steps.
1) Enabling Device...
2) Connection Failed!

And when I right-click to view available networks, the whole window is greyed out and nothing is clickable.
in the tray icon bar when i hover over the wireless it says wireless connection unavailable

I tried system restore, tried reinstalling the adaptor, safe mode, swearing, numerous reboots and... nothing.

And in the services manager, wireless zero configuiration is not started. when I attempt to start the service it gives me Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start

It's a linksys pci g adaptor
im running windows xp no sp's

Anyone has an idea?

Well, while this isn't likely the cause of your problems, it certainly isn't helping. Get SP2 on there stat.

Try updating the NIC drivers (if updates are available), or uninstall and reinstall the current ones if none are.

I cannot update my wireless card's drivers
im running version 3.30.15
nevest is version 4.something

when I specify the .inf for the newer ones it says 'no info about your hardware is contained'
had this from the start when i built the computer

updating to sp2 would be a thing to do.. if the net would work heh
nforce nic drivers are upto date
any other ideas?

are you able to plug it in to the physical router? I had the same problem, plugged it in to physical router, than plugged the wireless in and it worked.

hmmm.. maybe try switching the modem on and off because it could just have come to a problem or the cache thing is full.

Try another PCI slot then redetect your device on Windows. See how you go with that :)

Heck my Directx was doing that. One day couldn't play games or do anything that involved Directx. Rebooted 10 times with no luck. Next day (about 22 hours since last run) I turn it on and everything's good. Aren't computers the smartest/dummest most helpful/time consuming wonderful pieces of crap man ever made?
