I was having a bit of trouble coming up with a topic that I could use so I figured maybe some of you would have an idea to help me out.
I have to create a presentation for a networking lab class, most of the students are halfway knowledgable when it comes to networking so I didn't want a basic subject. But i need a subject on
Linux or Windows
Network protocols
Network/OS security
Network/OS software, services, applications
Privacy
Network design
or anything similar
The biggest problem I have is finding something that I could talk for 15 minutes about and not repeat the same information over and over again. Presentations aren't my strong point. Anyone have ideas?

Do virtualization. That's great stuff.
I/O can be talked about a lot. It's pretty boring stuff, but there a lot you can talk about.
You could also talk about the security holes in Windows Server 2000. Tons of those.

There is a lot to talk about in Network Protocols, but it is and has to be very techinical to avoid repitition. But there's a lot of stuff and really enjoyable if you know what your talking about and if your audience can relate to it as wel.

How about discussing how to successfully firewall (hardware and software) a network to prevent hacking.

Maybe start with a brief history of the TCP/IP protocol (5 mins talk) then focus on how it evolves and became the main protocol used on the Internet, also discuss its features and security issues then finally, discuss whats ahead IP6, VoIP etc..
Just my 2¢ :)

No I got it:
Talk about Redundancy and Load Balancing.
Talk about how it all started with RIP and then RIP v.2 came out.
Cisco Perfected HSRP and due to Nortel's Slow RIP Routing Time Spans, they had to re-write code to compete with HSRP.
This gave us VRRP from Nortel.
Compare VRRP to HSRP and you got yourself a Presentation on Network Redundancy and Load Balancing.

How about implementing poisoned reverse in a distributed distance vector routing algorithm?
(Yeah, not so much. I just...finished my assignment on that. So, yeah).
What about P2P. There is plenty to talk about with regards to P2P applications and protocols.

LOL that explains RIP 2. Then he can just add RIP used flat 24bit C Network Broadcasting.
