I guess I'm more tired or something lately.

yesterday I post that i have a 200gb when in fact its 120gb and today I burn a vista install dvd disk only to come back to my pc and realise it only has a cdrw.

anyone has an idea how/if splitting onto cdr's the vista 5342 install dvd is doable?

Well from a previous post, It does not seem possible. Why not try using some virtual drive software, like Alcohol 120%?

I want to install it on my new hd i got. clean full install and dualboot with xp on this drive.

would it be possible to mount it on this drive with daemon tools and do a clean install on the second drive?

What about after the reboot, if i reboot it wont have access to the files anymore? or *all* of them are copied to the destination drive before rebooting?

you cant install from a cd-r , but you can drop the iso onto the pc either by splitting and rejoining it with winrar etc
then use slchol 52% to install

i already have it on this pc
i sent it to the other to burn it caus I dont have a dvd writer on this computer, and stupid me didnt realise no dvd either to read the disk ive burned lol

so just mount it and install? it wont ask me to insert the disk after i reboot?

I honestly dont know, it depends on if setup copies all of the files to the destination folder, I cannot guarantee it will though.

I've done this many times running several builds, first mount the dvd.iso with deamon tools, run the setup and when it asks do a custom instalation then select you're clean drive to install to. This will install the operating system and reboot a fair few times it does work like this i can guarantee because i have done it this way many times. Vista will then load it's own bootloader and you will get the choice of Windows or Legacy (Pre Longhorn) windows , Windows is vista and Legacy (Pre Longhorn) is XP.

what i was saying was ditch your dvd load the iso into alchol 52% mount it and install from there
no dvd drive required

Installed it last night, working good.

Some great features that i especially find good, is that parental control thing built into user accounts.
it's exactly the same as in msn premium but not only for the internet and you can specify what times that user can use the computer.

Another cool thing is this 'program firewall' thing. Asking you permission when you start a program. Good consept, however it would be better if there would be an option 'remember me'. Having to click allow everytime starts to bug me a little heh.

It's got Media Center in it :)

and a great chess game :D

Found any bugs yet?

media center does not display the cover then playng a song. black square.
I have to enter visualisation mode and quit to seee the cover.

In the control panel 'back' dosnt work sometimes. Say I go to System. do some stuff there. and want to go back to Control Panel. it wont work. Clicking Back changes the addres in the location bar but the main screen stays the same.

I setup a secondary account for my sister. put a wallpaper thats smaller then my screen, so theres a border around it. The windows thing lets you choose a border color. Whatever i chose, it always goes back to the default color after i log off her account and log back in. Color isnt saved. tried 2 different methods of changing the background color. none worked.

Sometimes when I open a window its empty, nothing inside. I have to log off & log back in to see the contents.

Screensavers leave some yucky things on the screen. Don't know how to exmplain it. Dithering? Like thers some colors/black dots left where the thing passed by. PrintScreen/mspaint reveals nothing, gives a clean picture with no problems. Not sure what might be the problem here.

And sometimes windows just hangs for a few seconds while it 'thinks' heh

And it gave my computer a Performance Rating of 3, bastard! heh

some more 'stuff'

say you open a window wich a certain colors cheme, leave it open, then open the control panel to change the color scheme, close it and take the first window into foreground, the color scheme reverts to that window.

there is NO option to specify a display pattern in explorer. like all files/folders are in a 'details' view and you have to manually change to whatever you want. xp had this 'apply to all' thing.

when you click do display big icons, sometimes some remain small and sometimes they change to big.

In remote desktop, the cursor changes to a black cursor. if this was done on purpose, yuck.

when you delete a file, it stays there. you have to press F5 to refresh the folder/desktop

There is no way to disable sleep or hibernate in power options. can only put them to never, but not actually disable

more to come...

Now i have to write a freaking bug report for all this. grr

What about you, what bugs you found?

Turning the glass effect off lowered my pf use by 60mb, heh

do you know how to fix those permission issues?

when i try to delete a file that was created prior to installin vista i get 2 messages
1) no permission, click contrinue to delete
2) File Operation (Allow / Cancel)

i can't figure out how to fix those 2 things
for number 1 iv tried taing ownership of all files. says its done but still same problem
as for number 2 i'v tunred off the real-time monitoring thing. thinking that would solve this software firewall thing.

any ideas?

First of all if your using 5348 its not nearly ctp quality
and secondly
http://www.alphaaddict.net/Service%20Pack%20Database/
chose the right one for your build
