The oldest three that are private owned and are primarily focused on free webhosting are:
www.buildtolearn.com
www.lifelesspeople.com
www.clubhost.us
If anyone has any more that I've missed I would love to see them. :)

250 MB transfer? I still have my original site there, and it is only slightly smaller than the copy at a paid host.

AVOID BUILDTOLEARN! They had a month of sql downtime a few weeks back, their getting unreliable. Also: one of their mods is a total idiot. total.

Tripod.com for many years!Indeed. They've been hosting webpages since '94. I'm not sure any can beat that.

www.a2host.com are also pretty reliable, they have had a little bit of MySQL downtime in the past 2 days... but all was resolved fairly fast....
Id rate them about 6/10, maybe an 8/10 if they didnt have the downtime...
im nor sure how long they have been up thought....
