I hate to break it to you giancarlo but most people who are not spanish are against bullfighting. hmmm. Why's it called bull fighting and not bull hunting? They want to make fun as well as killing them? Why do they think killing bulls is fun? Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems as if they are enjoying it. Thats kind of weird to me.

No we're not. I am neutral, but it seems most people do not wish to extinguish it, but merely make it less cruel by evening the fight. Like, dont gel the eyes of the bull, weaken him before the fight, etc, etc..

Despite a growing tide of public opinion against the blood sport in Spain, the number of bullfights staged there has almost doubled in the past decade.

Sounds like you have a bunch of people who just say what you want to hear. You want to hear that they dont like it, so they tell you that. Then they go enjoy the fights anyway.

Out on the ranchlands we use to kill farm animals for feasts...usually pigs, but occasionally a cow. I still remember my first time. I was about 10 and was handed the pistol (I think it was a .22) and I shot it between the eyes. The cow dropped and I went over to cut it's vein. Scared the hell out of me when I got there and she jumped back up. Come to find out, all I did was knock her out... thick skulls.. A .22 doesnt quite do the job :rolleyes: They dont work well on full grown pigs either. Shoot one of them in the forehead, and you end up chasing a loudly squeeling pig across the field. Word of advice, with a .22, you have to get them where the neck comes to the top back of their skull. Even then they still take off running sometimes because they are too stupid to know they are supposed to just drop..

We killed them for food (sheesh, it was a ranch, what do you expect!), not entertainment. So we were doing nothing wrong. Even though you always do your best to make it swift and merciful...it doesnt always work out that way.

Anyway...a Cowboy in a rodeo is far braver than a Matador. A Cowboy doesnt use a sword (he has clowns), and doesnt weaken or gel the eyes of the bull before he gets on it. Even though the bull is unharmed, you still have animal rights activists trying to shut down the rodeos....though here in Texas, we arent quite so nice. We tell them to shut the hell up and make them dance to gunshots :D

A few months ago, my mum went to this shop on the outskirts of our city (which is a capital city), and across the little road was a paddock with some cows in it. I spent ages over there, just looking at this one cow in particular - she was this beautiful caramel brown colour; and I'll never forget her eyes. They were honestly one of the nicest things I have ever seen. So big and beautiful...And innocent.

I have a strong affection for cows.

Humans are unique, are they? Cows and bulls are too. Some humans have brown hair, some red (like myself), some blonde. Some cows are black and white, some are brown and white, and so on. Therefore, there is a uniqueness about them.

Humans always seem to think we are the most important species; it's just our own arrogance. We assume that because we don't understand animals, nor fully the extent of their intelligence, then we must be more important. It's a very narrow-minded and simple view.

It is actually a view I used to hold; if the truth be known. And then I seriously thought about it, and I just thought, why? What makes us so much more important? Sure, you can answer that by saying, "We build cities and technology". But animals have their own kind of 'technology'. Have you ever thrown a sandwich a few metres away from you and watched crows coming in to eat? It's amazing. They sit in the trees above, watching. One cautiously tests it for a trap, while a few others guard, and a few more come down to test it. After thoroughly testing it, one or two crows will go down to eat. Always, there will be crows keeping guard; to let out a warning if they see a trap or a predator. When the first crows are finished eating; they take their turn in keeping guard and the sentries then go for their feed. It's interesting to watch.

And how about the birds that drop a nutshell on the road so that tyres will run over it and crack it open so that they can eat the nut inside?

About 30 pages of discussion has explained why I think its not acceptable. However, I will explain it again. Not all people (and I won't say most) but a lot of people do not like bull fighting. They are against it. Now for the explanation. They think the bull fighting is an evil, cruel and spanish tradition (similar to how +chips described it). They don't think this just to annoy you. Look at the bull's perspective. I personally think it has the same rights as you do. Agree? If you don't agree then explain to me why. I also think that bull fighting should be banned because I can't understand the reason behind it. Even if they do eat the bull then why do they have to make such an act of killing it. I could go on and make a really long post but I think the rest of this thread and the other one explains myself. If you don't think it does then I can't understand why.
