~GURU~ April 22nd, 2006, 18:07 Hi All.
Well this is it:
Poweredge
Pentium 3 dual processor 2 * 800MHz [so 1,6GHz] (yes slow)
256 MB RAM
6 * 18,6 SCSI[10.000rpm] hard drives
RAID 5 controler
Windows Server 2003
10Mbps line
How much do you think this could be rented out for per month?
How much would you actually pay for this a month?
I really would like to know,
thanks,
Guru
rajuthan April 22nd, 2006, 18:17 Like Around 50 USD a month Since Pentium 3 is a Bit old and 800 MHz :o
HostFrog April 22nd, 2006, 18:31 Good luck renting it out at all. Seems a bit older and P3 really wont assit you much in any way shape or form. Probably not the news you wanted but surely needed to be said. However you can always upgrade the processor and have a decent machine there.
utcrazy April 22nd, 2006, 19:59 I'd agree with about $50 is what I can sell P3's for. But they sell pretty easily for people with small budgets.
NetCafe April 22nd, 2006, 20:58 With 256mb, you are sitting on a white elephant be it dual processor or not.
Try running a Dual Xeon 3.0ghz on 256mb ram :)
gate2vn April 22nd, 2006, 21:43 I dont say it's slow at all. It's a bit out of date, but coming with RAID SCSI and dual CPUs (real dual, not HT). A good P3 with SCSI will easily win a low-end P4 box with IDE disks

I agree with the spces but the RAM is where the bottleneck is.
AvailNetworks April 22nd, 2006, 22:50 it would be a good backup dns server thats about it but I would say 50/mo should be fine
Wojtek April 22nd, 2006, 23:27 add a 512mb stick in there and im renting it :)

Same here, would be kewl to use it for our dns server or host our forum. :classic2:

Wtf dude you don't need dual p3 800 mhz processors JUST to host a forum or dns server i had a server running fine just recently for my friends to download stuff stats
pentium 100 mhz
128 ram
windows 2000 advanced server
it ran fine for them to download of they were getting 50 kb a sec downloads which is pretty gud considerin i am on 256 kb up speed
Bruce April 24th, 2006, 07:38 it ran fine for them to download of they were getting 50 kb a sec downloads which is pretty gud considerin i am on 256 kb up speed256k = 32 kB/s
There's no way they were getting "50 kb a sec" unless you really do mean kbps and not kBps. And if they were only getting 50kb (~6 kB) on a 256k line that's pretty sad.
hottweelz April 24th, 2006, 08:18 pentium 100 mhz

Hi, yea, um, we're like pr0fezzionals, so no that like totally wudn't w0rk, right?
NetCafe April 24th, 2006, 08:55 Hi, yea, um, we're like pr0fezzionals, so no that like totally wudn't w0rk, right?
Yeah man!
~GURU~ April 24th, 2006, 09:39 WEll, i don't think putting it up for rent is going to be profitable. It'll costs more than 300 Euros just to get is hosted in a datacenter.... with not even a TB of bandwidth....
Anyone able to offer good colocation hosting in the Netherlands; Your offers are more than welcome!!!
Wojtek April 24th, 2006, 15:27 can you sell it? price?
and ship it to north america?
~GURU~ April 24th, 2006, 15:32 will get in touch with you,
i also got two spare processors for it
1* 800MHz
1* 500MHz
Which would be the best way to get in touch with you?

Of course it ran fine... for 5 sites all pointing to one NS. :P
striker99 April 26th, 2006, 05:08 yes but if u looked back the guy was talking about 1 forum and a dns server
hottweelz April 26th, 2006, 08:21 yes but if u looked back the guy was talking about 1 forum and a dns server
Go install a forum, and a DNS server on a P100. Give the domain name. Watch it fail in 10 mins.
striker99 April 26th, 2006, 19:54 Acturly i turned it on every day it ran fine all day never crashed thats about 10 hours at a time it was on never had a problem u just don't know about older processors

How old are you?
striker99 April 27th, 2006, 00:45 and why should you need to know
heymrdj April 27th, 2006, 13:03 Hehe...this reminds of that old Cpanel thread..How old are you..do you know what a FIX protocol is. Man he was an ---. But a good debater lol. How did he ever get to become partly my boss? :S Oh yeah...cause we are in CAHOOTS lol.
hottweelz April 27th, 2006, 13:11 and why should you need to know
Because you're telling me I don't know older processors.
You think a P100 is "older" I got some bad news for you. ;)
utcrazy April 27th, 2006, 13:37 p100 is older, an Athlon xp 2000+ is technically older. Are there much older procesors? Hell yeah. Do these people have experience with a commodore pet? Doubtful, but we're in no position to judge.

Do you know how much my poor old Parents paid for a Commodore Pet in 1980!
utcrazy April 27th, 2006, 13:48 I'd guess a hell of a lot, that's the downfall of buying super computers these days, a super computer in 1994 went for 1.3mil, and is now a complete piece of trash that couldn't run dos.
Edit: I didnt mean the commodore was a super computer, just a rant.
striker99 April 28th, 2006, 00:52 well im not gona tell u so to bad. And my point was u under eastimate what a p1 100 mhz cpu can do with 128 ram u idiot
X3r0X April 28th, 2006, 07:28 And my point is that he is the most damn knowledgeable person on these forums (and quote) "u idiot".
8 year old's coming in on these forums and raving about how you can get that much performance out of that computer when you clearly couldn't isnt really appreciated. Go learn something about servers, a bit more english and a lot more etiquette.

One thing for sure, I know you cannot run my favourite game AOE2 on it and neither can you surf the net with that, correct me if I am wrong.

128mb RAM? Care to explain what kind and how many strps that is.
I don't think you can squeeze 8 16mb 33pin EDOs in there... I could be wrong.

A windows working on a P1 with 128mb stick? Tell me, which version of windows you intend to install and which version of IE? 92?
BUT I will give you the benefit of doubt since kids are so smart nowadays. So for a P1 c/w 128mb sticks, TEACH ME, since its for a forum and DNS:
1. Which OS you intend to use?
2. Which Control Panel you intend to use?
3. Which Forum script you intend to you?
Please dont tell me you intend to install Dos 6.0.
striker99 April 29th, 2006, 00:18 Actrualy I Have Been Running Pc's Of It 128 Ram 100 Mhz Pentium With Windows 2000 Advanced Server All Updated With Ie6 Sercice Pack 1 So Shut Your Bloody Mouth ---- Head

BTW, do you know how much memory the Windows 2000 Server consumes when it is fully loaded / booted?
I bet you know the answer, ya? Oh, add the browser, which version of IE did you use?
We would loved to employ you as our technical adviser so we can thrash all our P4 and Dual AMDs and use P1 c.w 128mb sticks to host our clients, in no time, our company will be listed with the profit we are making.
striker99 April 29th, 2006, 00:40 u just don't give up do you retard
NetCafe April 29th, 2006, 00:40 u just don't give up do you retard

NetCafe April 29th, 2006, 01:20 Its actually very simple, smart kid.
1st. use your left hand and look for the little HOLE at the back of the computer with the 3 pins. Stick your middle finger there.
2nd. Then with your right hand, switch on the power point and then stick your middle finger also in the bottom-right HOLE.
This should turn on your P1 and you are ready to surf the web.
striker99 April 29th, 2006, 01:22 hmm sorry we dun have a bottom right whole in australia its 2 pins at top and earth wire at bottom
