Hi.

Just wondering if anyone had the same problem that i have had (below) and if so, how did they fix it?

I turn on my laptop this morning, and i get the message "a disk error has occured, press ctrl alt del to restart" which came up everytime i restarted.
But, sometimes, i restart and it gives me the chance to boot of the cd drive; i mean it gives me a screen where i can pick which one to boot from, this seems to be displaying at random.
I really don't want to format this drive, as there is like 25 gig of stuff that i need to dump someware before i do.
Btw i could really do with this working before school on thursday.
If anyone has a idea of what to do, plzzzzzzzz post.
Thanks,

BEN-MR

Boot from a Windows XP CD and perform a repair.

Is this fixed?

If not, check your floppy disk drive...you may have misread the error.

If you tap F8 or F10 while its booting do you get an option for safe mode...if you can get in there you might be able to do your backups.

On boot (early) press Del - during the ram scan usually. This brings up your BIOS. Check your primary boot sequence, maybe for some reason its bumped your HD to 4th and its trying to boot from a network source or other drive that has no boot records.

I dunno what else...I'm tired and should be asleep :)

Its actually fixed now.
Thanks anyway and btw all of the solutions that you gave had been posted on computing.net sometime ago and didn't work.
Thanks,
