I'm trying to help my friend out who is currently going through all his logs to find what caushed a 10 hour crash last night. He's been with Burst.net for four years but server failing is starting to become a major problem for him now so I told him I would see what I can help him find.

He does not want a company who is new and trying to get their name out. The company must have been in business for atleast 2+ years now and must have 24/7 tech support and toll-free phone support. Also the company MUST NOT be an overseller of space and bandwith.

Servers must have atleast dual processors, 80 GB main hardrive, 60 GB backup, and 1 GB ram.

We are open to look at all offers that will meet these requirements.

If I were you I would get a machine from softlayer.com and have an outsourced management company take care of your needs, such as serverwizards.com.

Most companies can accomidate everything you need with the exception of phone support, most everything in this field is done via tickets.

If you want an all in one solution to your problems including phone support then I would look towards liquidweb.com

softlayer has been around for longer than that. Sometimes there is far more to consider than being new however, they are fast becoming known as the company to beat, just look how many places are trying to emulate them already. They have a solid business plan, financials, and the staff to make them an industry leader

Well I guess softlayer started in may of 05, however stopped service until january, or so Iv heard. However they wouldnt help the client, as he needs to have the phone support etc. Best to deal with just one company, then 2+ makes more work.

to each their own i suppose. I would rather have it done through 2 companies because if I ever neeeded to swap support companies then It would be far easier to do so without getting charged twice for managment

but of course if you are looking for the ultimate in everything then there is always rackspace

Okay, Im online looking forward to speaking with you.

EDIT: Been talking with the client, after discusing with him, Im not sure if anyone would be able to help, hes in need of min Dual Xeon 2.8's, hes saying that every few hours the servers maxing out, this means hes probally needing quad's shortly. My recommendation is to purchase smaller servers and seperate the accounts. I guess theres atleast 100 sites on this servers bring in 82,000 load every 3 hours. He cannot go over $150/month thats with the setup in the price as well.

EDIT 2: I guess most the sites are communities, So again I would say the load is due to bad management, and the mysql and php settings are set wrong, if they were to be redone the server would run faster. I know personally I can fit 100 communities on a dual core 2.8 without many problems. So good luck to the OP.

Hello BJordanR63,

A fully managed high spec dedicated server requires a strong budget and also a very good support system to manage the server 24x7. You may get the server within your budget but can't tell about the quality and the support. So don't stick to the price, raise your budget and opt for a stable host which will definately help in long term growth.

It sounds like you are in need of just a good management firm that can polish off what you have now into a workable solution. No computer can compensate for extremely poorly written code so throwing more hardware at a software problem will not help you much

The scripting is not the problem. The site that is most responsible for the high loads is ran on vBulletin and has over 9,000 members. And we all know vbulletin is not poorly written code.

you are indeed correct but it might be a hack you have installed causing a problem to that extreme (if in fact you are running hacks/addons) If you are just having that busy of a forum with this kind of activity then you do in fact need some intense hardware. multi processors and multiple machines is about the only way to go in that situation
