Has it been installed yet?, I tried to post a offer (just testing) & it didnt stop me (the offer would of been within 7 days).

It's a warning system, not a "stop you from posting multiple ads within 7 days system". ;)

The Advance Warning System has been installed. It's not active yet. We need to work on some settings and try it out first. I expect that it will take a few days.

As Bruce explained, it won't prevent 2 ads within 7 days. With the new warning system in place, we might decide to go for a warning in such cases instead of a 7 day ban.

If you want to make a system to stop posting twice a week in the Ads and Offers forum, it would take one if statement and some error codes.

I can do this for you if you'd like.

Then what will this system do?, I thought that was the whole point?.... to stop people creating 2 ads within 7 days.

It's a warning system. That means it will have specific type of warnings defined and when a member breaks a rule he will get info about which rule was broken.

It's designed to make life easier for mods, keep track of previous abuse and keep users informed of how many warnings they have etc.

This is how the author describes it:

It allows you (the administrative team of your site, in other words the admins, the supermods and the mods), to define offences, which the members of your forum should NOT commit. But as we all know, there are instances where members do not follow the rules. In that case, this warning system, allows you to issue a warning to the member who commited the offence. The warning has some points associated with it, as well as a period over which it is valid. When a member gathers enough points, he is banned from your forums, for a predefined period of time.

- post- and non-post-related warnings
- hierarchical warning schema
- hidden or real warners
- customizable maximum warning points
- automatically bans members who reached the maximum warning points
- customizable ban days
- customizable ban user group and permanent ban user group
- customizable restore user group, where users are restored after they get unbanned
- customizable option for who can see the warning level of the members
- automatically issued warnings for posts which contain censored words
- automatically issued warnings for private messages which contain censored words
- supports incremental banning periods
- supports multiple warnings for the same post
- warned members are notified either by Private Message or e-mail when they are warned and when one of the warnings they have received is either deleted or expired
- maintains historical listings of issued warnings (even if deleted or expired)
- customizable warning types
- each warning type has predefined warning points associated with it
- each warning type has predefined maturity period, after which it is automatically deleted
- reports for admin, mods and members
- cron job included to automatically remove matured warnings
- uses vBulletin's cron job, to automatically unban banned users
- all options are setable in your AdminCP
- user warning points and number of bans viewable in your AdminCP User Manager.
- statistics show warning per type, warnings per warner, bans per user.
- Allows you to warn a user from your AdminCP/User Manager.
- Large "Warn" sign, in posts which have received a warning, for mods, supermods and admins, to easily distinguish those posts.
- etc.

No. The warning system will allow us to add points to a user when they break our rules. The # of points given to them is based on the rule they break (and how severe it is). And once the person has received x amount of points, they get banned (ie. 1 week ban, 1 month ban, etc).

It allows us to moderate easier.

Thanks. Are you familiar with vBulletin and the setup of the templates etc? I don't think it's that simple to do, but if you have any ideas let me know.

You should also install the mod which Craig was talking about, which stops you from posting 2 ads in a week, just like WHT!

Yes, we intend to install something like that when and if we find a solution.

Jan might know?, cant you use the same system as WHT? or is that a custom one?.

Yes I am. If you're interested, I'd charge a nominal $15 and it would take approx. 5 days from start to finish. PM me if you're interested.

From the comments, that one appears to be a bit buggy.

Bruce
May 14th, 2006, 18:44
Isn't everything a bit buggy? :p

From the looks of it, 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 seems to have fixed the majority of the issues.

Craig

With this system will there be any page us members can view to see how many points you get for different rule breaks?.

Try going to:

http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/Warn.php?do=ViewMyWarnings

This is what I get:

An error has occured, the following message has been left below:

You do not have permissions to view warnings information

It's on the Quick Links menu at the top of the forum as well.

I get the same error message. I imagine it's similar to the warning system that WHT has recently implemented (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/Warn.php?do=ViewMyWarnings). I think it's only visible if you've been warned though. Before they killed my signature, I never saw the link.

Bruce
May 14th, 2006, 19:06
Yes, it's the same system.

I'm not quite sure what the issue is... I can view the warning system at WHT and I don't have any points...

Craig

I can see the little button. But still get the error when I click on it.

That's because you warned about the first post, so it shows that you've been warned on that post.

Tree
May 14th, 2006, 20:57
Still can't see the warning page. And I can't see the warning button only on a post I just made or just edited.

You'll only see the waring button on posts that you've been warned on. The post that has the warning button was the post you asked to be warned, so Jan warned you.

Tree
May 14th, 2006, 21:01
No, I see it on every one of my posts. It's the same case with WHT. I was warned on one specific post for my signature, but I can see the "View Your Warnings" thing on every one of my posts.
