Looks like you were trying to do an XP style website. I don't like it all that much, I feel you coulda done better ;)

Obviously it's not polished for actual use yet.

Mr. J...

Since you may get a background issue here (as you would like it to be the entire picture) it may be cool to resize the window to the exact size of the site on page load so that there is no background.

Johnson

Yeah, what it is now is just the largest size. If I use it, I'll just use a code to redirect to a 800x600/1024x768/etc. page.

Thats not even necessary, just use this:

Head:

<script type="text/javascript">
function resize() {
self.resizeTo(500,400);
}
</script>

Body Tag:

<body onload="resize()">

seeing the background, we remember the XP desktop as replied by stuffradio.
the design is very simple and basic.
if that fits your content and requirements, you may proceed with it.

What makes it simple and basic?

i like the folder lol the rest in kind of ugly the nav is WAY to big and its just a box a plane box which is boring

i really am not trying to be rude but all you did was

take a image make a rectangle round edges bring opacity down put some text add bevel and drop shadow

and i dont know where u got that folder

im sure you could put mor effort into it and make it somwhat decent

although i like the idea behind the design the design it self is kind of dull and pointless

I was playing around with it last night, and actually just normal white text looks better than the box.

I cannot see an actual use for this template. The lettering is 12 sizes too large and it looks like it was made like 15 years ago

Johnson

How does it look 15 years old?

And the nav text is supposed to look like it's hovering off the ground. Maybe I didn't do it well enough.

15 years ago, half you people weren't even born :p

And web designs then were... nonexistent.

I don't know what a website looked like 15 years ago and you were 1 year old at the time....... am I missing something here?

I am many years older than you and I do know what designs looked like then, and besides it was an overstatement captain.

Either way the design looks unprofessional, way too simple and the size of the lettering is enormous

It seems more like you have a beef with me, than the actual design.

AvailNetworks

no i just really do not like the design. I am not too find of the way you generally portray yourself but that has no reflection on whether the design is good or not. I think your other sites arent too bad at all, just this one is not up to your usual standard

Johnson

What would you change on it to make it look more realistic, so that the text and the background blends.

AvailNetworks
June 7th, 2006, 15:58
I think that may be the problem is that it is too realistic, the clouds look too real and it may just be too much going on. Also I think the overall size may be throwing it off, just too big

Johnson
June 7th, 2006, 17:02
Obviously it'd be resized if I use it.

lol, very true. well, except the internet was invented in like 1957, but was just not available to the mid to late 80s, and was very oncommon to have a personal computer, especially with internet, untill the late 80's-early 90's. therefore, websites have been around for a long time, but it was not common to be a designer.

anyways, the review.....well, i am not sure what i really think of this one LG. I am used to seeing things better from you. it is not your best work. i think you have a cool idea that could be improved upon. the nav is to large, and not aligned properly. i do however like the main content area. i just dont see a practical use for a site like that unless you were making a lawncare sort of site, but then the giant folder would not fit to well. also, the title needs to stand out more somehow.

i have a few ideas to try an dclean it up a bit if you want to send me the psd. it will send back when done. :D

I really never planned on using this template. I tried to make it look as though the logo and the nav text was part of the picture and that it hovers above the ground. I guess I didn't do it well enough.
