The expresion gig may mean Gigabyte or Gigabit. The proper short form would be GB (gigabyte) or Gb (gigabit).

It could also mean GigaHertz as well.

Well, now that we are on a roll, it could also mean a band that has a show / concert. For instance, my buddys band MaryJayne is having a gig in which they are headlining @ the HorseShoe in Toronto in a couple of days. :)

Also, if you having a party, that can sometimes be reffered to as a gig.

Note...the prefix "gig" means a billion. The prefix "mega" means a million. The prefix "tera" means a trillion. You might want to know those. They do come in handy. :)
