A current client that is a homeowners association is wanting a members only area where voting, notices, and discussion for Homeowners can take place. What would be best to use here? Should I password protect a directory and then create a site within with voting, notices, and a forum? Or is there a open-source program that could house all of this within? What language should I use? I don't really know where to go from here any suggestions are weclome!
Thanks,
aggiedude

Password protecting a directory could work. It probably is the most inconvienent way to do it. I would hire a PHP developer and have him design a member system, and a CMS of sorts. If you PM me, I may be able to help or point you in the direction of a developer to do it.

What kind of site are you running there aggiedude? You might want to get some forum software that only allows registered members to view and post. You can do all that "voting, notices, and discussion for Homeowners" in a forum. You should check out phpBB(free), or VBulletin(superior but costs $), depending on your budget.
Edit:
If you want to code this yourself, you should definitely go with PHP if you don't have much experience. It's a lot easier to pick up than the alternative, ASP.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will probably go with a protected directory just because its something I am capable of doing. I will probably add a phpBB2or Invision Forum but would rather not conduct polls through them. So this leads me to my next question. I remember when I started web design I used to love BraveNet's services and I am looking for something similar. A simple poll script. Something I don't have to write. Does anyone know where I could get that?
