Is a private switch necessary for your server?

If your renting a server (aka buying one from any of the hosts here), no you don't need a switch.
If, however you're colocating (sending a server to a datacenter to be connected), then you will need to provide a switch if you have more than one server to colocate on one connection.

generally the dc will have one or you can negotiate into the deal. Unless you are planning for a half-cab or more usually the dc will provide it for you

That's a relief! I can't kick my ISP out, more's the pity. Well, as long as everything's up on the user's end! Thanks, people
