This is not a 'sneaky ad' for a hosting company (I do not plan on revealing the name), I just want to know if these server stats look really good:

-The server load was at 0.00 for about ten minutes, then it 'spiked' to 0.07
-4 CPU's
-Disks almost empty.
-This is really good, isn't it?

Server Load 0.07 (4 cpus)
Memory Used 36.3 %
Swap Used 24.68 %
Disk sda5 (/) 2 %
Disk sda1 (/boot) 12 %
Disk sda7 (/home) 7 %
Disk sda8 (/tmp) 4 %
Disk sda3 (/usr) 29 %
Disk sda2 (/var) 5 %

So i am assuming that this is a good news for you right?

..What are you asking? Your asking if those stats are good for a shared hosting server? If so then yes they are good but not "CRAZY-OMG-ONCE-IN-A-LIFE-TIME-THING".

I'm pretty happy with it, and wondered if a 'pro' or two would confirm this is a very good hosting situation (based on the data provided).

Thanks

Close enough for me, and better than my other option. Thanks.

From the looks of it you are probably on a VPS. Not a dedicated server.

type df

and post the results.

'type df'
Where?

'type df'
Where?

If you have a shell/SSH account type it there.

And it looks to me that you are on a newly created reseller account on a new server.

I know what shell access is, but have no experience using it. This is probably a good time to learn. I hope the server stays 'new' for at least a while.

Thanks.

doesn't look like a vps to me, look at the file system layout

it appears you are on a new server or just a new company with very little utilization. I am quite sure it will not stay that under used for long

I should think there isnt that many accounts on the server yet, load will go up once more accounts are added. Give it a few months & post details then.

I am quite sure it will not stay that under used for longAgreed. This type of situation is exactly why initial reviews or impressions about service quality/server performance can be inaccurate/overrated.

Forget Cpu, forget cache, forget speeds, forget hdd space, concentrate on RAM, with super duper cpu and only 128 mb ram it wont do you any good.

So post ram info. SQL relies more on ram.

It maybe 4 CPUs. I once was hosted on a QUAD Xeon Server

Quad Xeons are upwards of $8000, highly doubt that the OP's host has a quad Xeon. Probably a dual-core, dual Xeon, which still is not bad at all.

The best thing for SQL is a good (SCSI) hard drive. The best that you can do for a SQL-heavy site is have SCSIx2 with RAID 0, 10, or 0+1. RAM, while important, doesn't do crap if you can't pull the data fast enough.
