View Full Version : RIP Jeep

So earlier tonight, around 12:15AM (5 hours ago), I was following my friend to someone's house. His turbo 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege easily loses me, so I speed up in my 4-cylinder Cherokee to catch up.
I forgot there was a sharp turn.
Brakes locked, jumped the curb, flipped once and landed on my drivers side in a concrete ditch. Only marks on me are bruises on my left leg. Mom made me go to the hospital, they gave me a CT scan, came out normal.
As far as Jeep goes, it's totaled. The front grill, bumper, and headlight assembly was destroyed. The passenger side front door was bent inwards. All the glass was knocked out except the windshield. Frame twisted. Axle snapped. Many dents.
My friend, who was in the passenger seat wasn't so lucky. Sort of. He got a small cut on his hand from the flying glass. Besides that he's fine.
I called my girlfriend as soon as I climbed out of the steaming pile of jeep; she probably broke nearly every possible traffic law in Atlanta getting to me.
Moral of the story: DONT SPEED IN A JEEP.
Oh, and, if anybody in Atlanta wants to see the remnants for some odd reason (Jeep got towed but theres glass and 150feet of skid marks) it's halfway between Georgia Perimeter College Dunwoody Campus and Mt. Vernon Hwy (on Tilly Mill).

Glad to know you didn't die in a flaming mound of wreckage.

I saw a car crash on the way home tonight. Weird huh?
There was an Asian storming out her car saying "YOU HAD RED! YOU HAD RED!!!" Haha.

Haha, no, I'm quite alright.
Tandoc: Yes, that would have been so depressing.
Tree: That's cool. I live in the area, too, near 285. I've still got to go back and scour the area for some stuff that flew out of my jeep. Like 20-something CDs.
Dean: That is weird. And it makes me think of the movie Crash, "You blake too fast!".

I took a speedbump at 60 km/h(around 40mph) once. That was fun.

And now think of all the things you could have done differently... Like pumping the brakes. If you think of enough you might go crazy and never trust yourself to operate a vehicle again.

Ben, didn't you have a Datsun Z or something that you were supposed to restore?
Either way, SUVs flip over. ---- happens. ABS sucks. It happens.

Hold up... According to Daniel, your Cherokee had ABS? So... The brakes locked up with your ABS system? If not, then my comment about pumping the brakes remains.

It probably didn't. Either way, ABS sucks ballwox.

Still have the Z, still hasn't been restored. Don't (didn't) have ABS. And I know about the whole brake-pumping thing, and stopping with the gears, but it happened too fast for me to do anything. 70+mph.
Pictures....

In order: The crash site this morning, the wrecker yard, the jeep at the crash site, limo ride last night. (I group my pictures by day otherwise I wouldn't have put the limo stuff in)
The ones at the crash site were after the wrecker pulled it back on all four wheels and almost had it out of the ditch.

I must say, that's a horribly made street layout...

I agree. The main side has a stop sign, and the sidestreet (where I came from) has a yield sign, but half the time neither sides stop or look so there are a lot of accidents there.

So, how badly did your insurance take a hit?

No idea, my parents haven't told me yet.

Oh... you know you're in deep.
They'll give you that "Son, what you did was stupid and wrong. We're glad you're ok... *pause* You pay for your own insurance from now on."

Not exactly, they aren't going to make me pay for anything (the jeep was worth probably $600), and they won't give me a talk. My dad brought home a newspaper today and told me to start looking for a new car, and that a late-90s Mercedes CLK320 would be nice.

OUch man, that is no good. At least you are okay, that is what matters. Plus, now you have an EXCUSE for a new car!
