I am thinking of getting a windows VPS for running a few gameservers and/or voice servers. Right now I'm just looking for a few offers to consider whether it is worth it to get one or not, because I can run the stuff off linux as well (but I preffer windows due to ease of use for me).

The following is the minimum I'm looking for:

15GB HD
256MB RAM
1Mbit Bandwidth (320GB-ish)
Windows 2003 Server Edition
Remote Desktop Access

No control panel
Any virtualization platform
Unmanaged

I don't have a set budget yet.

what kind of games are you thinking of running, from our experience most games on a vps is a bad idea. Voice is not a problem but the 1mbit (capped i assume) will not be enough for either application

The main game is Star Wars Jedi Academy. It should be fine, I can run a jailed version (jailed resources) from home, with no problem or any lag. Apart from that it's only Steam games (CSS, CS1.6,etc)
I am not really an expert when it comes to calculation of bandwidth needed for applications. What would your recommendation be for maximum of 26-ish slots in a voice server and 2 or 3 gameservers, used dailly?

I would say a opteron 165/170 shoud do just fine with those specs. The voice server you may run into a small issue with the fact that both ts/ventrilo you will need a comercial license for anything over 8 slots so you may have to outsource that portion to another company.

Another nice option is get 2gb ram and a control panel and you can also have the ability to sell off a few game servers to regain some of the dedicated server costs. We have quite a few game server customers that do very well with that same situation.

As far as bandwidth is concerned a 10mbit port is plenty with the standard 1000gb or 2000gb transfer rate. That is generally more than enough to serve a full game server client machine.

As far as steam games are concerned I would definately go with windows over linux, they run smoother and like you said far easier to administer.

OK, thanks. Teamspeak only allows a license if it is used for profitable reasons. I'm not really intrested in selling gameservers, it will probably take my whole time and I won't even have time to play games. =\
So would you happen to have any offers suitable for me, you could put to presentation here?

sure I can offer you a machine with the following specs

Opteron 170
1GB Ram
250GB Drive
10mbit connection/2000gb transfer
Lite Management (1HR admin time/month)
Remote reboot console/os reload
Windows Server 2003
$189/mo

Optional: Tcadmin Game Control Panel $15/mo

This machine is located at the softlayer datacenter which has indeed proved itself worthy for gaming. Tcadmin is a great way to remotely adminster the game servers and might help you on cutting down on admin time since once it is up and running you really will not have to do a whole lot of messing around. You can actually have time to play the games.

Would you happen to have anything in the lower-end range? Because I'm not really intrested in selling gameservers and I'm only looking for a personal solution.

I just actually thought of something last night, if you are interested I can sell you a few gameservers and webspace in a shared type environment and it will release you from the server management aspect of it. The other machines I have p4 3.0 would actually be about the same cost as the one listed above minus about $10

If you go shared it will definately cost you less to do that
