I wouldnt purchase this for my kid. Those things go as fast/faster then mopeds, but the seating position just makes it easier to fall then from a moped.

Woj got it  (sorry typo on my part - couldn't you all work it out )

Mini Bikes, tiny little motor bikes causing a real stir, as apparently, if your old enough to walk you can ride one. In the UK they're causing all sorts as there is no tax or insurance legislation as they seem to have escaped classification under the guise of 'toys'.

Our 14 year old is to be allowed access to one of these, and I'm right against it. I used to ride a 500cc bike myself - till one nasty accident too many - and I can see the dangers in a full size bike, never mind an almost invisible one to other traffic. Especially since they have no legal requirements for lights, indicators, or anything really. Just 2 wheels and an engine fast enough to go to 40mph, not fast eh? But when your in a car and you can't even see it in line of sight as they are so small and low to the ground.... Who's at fault when you hit one?

More of a problem is the ones that go out of control and damage other vehicles and property, with no insurance who pays up - just loads of animosity between neighbours involved.

Need to put her off the idea, any horror stories welcome that will put her off!!

You can advise a 14 year old anything but he/she won't believe you (until a few years later) ;)

Sounds like you need to get some city laws for such vehicles in place. Those things sound like an accident waiting to happen. Maybe you can allow her one with a proviso that if it is used on the streets, she will have it taken away?

They've had reports on them in ACA (stupidest show ever, next to Today Tonight, anyway) and how dangerous they are. I think any injury/death sustained from riding one of those things should have no implications for any vehicle driver. Idiots that ride those things near cars deserve it.
