I am trying to figure out which control panel I need. I have a little old computer sitting in here running Linux. I can install the following OS's depending on whats needed: CentOS 3, Fedora Core 4, Ubuntu 5.10 or 6.13, or KDE Ubuntu 6.13. I could always do BSD ect. I guess, but I prefer one of those three. It is a K6II 400MHZ processor, so it can only be the older OS's that are i386 compatible (NOT THE NEWER i686 TYPES SUCH AS FEDORA CORE 5 AND CENTOS4).

Anyways, the main use is to quickly install forums, portals, and media distribution systems for testing before launching on the main site. So a qucik and easy accessibility to MySQL is a MUST (such as the direct links in Cpanel to mysql and phpmyadmin)

I need the following items to be readily clickable:

FREE
a file manager of whatever sort
some sort of list of mysql databases and the ability to quickly create and delete them
a way to use PHPmyAdmin, although if it requires using an external link, I reckon thats fine as well

I know thats a limit on choices, but i realy hope there's one out there that meets these requirements.

Also, if someone could help me out, I'm trying to figure out how to access the system from another computer on my LAN. When i try to use https://server1: (port hidden for protection :lol: ) it can't find it on the network. It also can't get it through 192.168.0.(last number hidden :lol: ) Do I like need to register a domain through no-ip.com just to make test easier?

Thx guys

i586 = Pentium = AMD K5 / K6
i686 = PII and higher = AMD K6 / K6 II-III and up

therefore go for the newer versions.

I tried to run CentOS4.4, and the system refused to go past the BIOS screen.

Try zPanel.

zPanel is very basic for a Linux system. VHCS would be better for that

yeah i thought zpanel was too basic. I am attepting for the fourth time to install VHCS on my Ubuntu system now. Now that I've found what appears to be a working sh script generously doanted to me last night by an Ubuntu forum moderator. :-)

VHCS + Ubuntu. the perfect match. Are you using it with the desktop version or just plain server?

Going the plain Desktop version. Although almost all my stuff is done via ssh from this computer, itsgood for when I'm in a hurry to be able to use KDE to use a quick gui. That is one thing, instead of using Ubuntu 6.06 which normally uses GNOME, I'k using Kubuntu 6.06 so it had KDE. I just like KDE better :).

I have a question for the server guru's here. I need to let the server out onto the DMZ area of the router I believe. But I don't want to compromise my other two computers. Is there a good article or program to run to harden Ubuntu? i wanna keep someone from being able to hack their way into the main systems.

Another question. Is there a command I can use to update the 5.** Breezy Badger Ubuntu into the 6.06LTS Ubuntu via the CD or the internet? The main thing is I DO NOT wanting it to download new packages (in other words, lets install open office, NOT ). Just to only upgrade what is already installed to the 6.06LTS versions.

If its confusing for people let me explain. I have both a Breezy Badger, and a 6.06LTS install CD. I had to install Breezy Badger however, because thats what the install script was written for. After I successfully install VHCS, I am then free to upgrade it to 6.06LTS.
