dreamweaver is not php friendly. Ive tried doing it but really you need to turn put apache and mod_php on your computer but if you have a mac on the other hand...

That is not true, dreamweaver has great support for php/mysql for newbies, you can do pretty much anything with it, of course i'm using DW 8
you find videos to teach you how to work on php/mysql/dreamweaver on the macromedia website

dw has the o'riely pocket reference to php built in, only no-one knows it's there in the first place, it's as good as most other editors, personally I preffer php designer, or psp pad ...

well i use notepade++ has great functions, and yes dw has the o'riely pocket php reference and also pocket refrences for many other programming languages (ASP.net, asp, javascript, mxl, css, html...) to access them, click shift+F1

Yes you can use Dreamweaver for HTML/CSS/PHP/MYSQL, etc.
Although I use plain old Notepad, I susggest using Notepad only if you are experienced enough. But yeah, I don't use any program to tell me what to put in certain cases, I don't have anything highlighting possible errors it's all coded/checked the good ol fashion way :p

DW can do it well, but if it's straight coding use something like UltraEdit, it's a paid one and a lot less than DW.
But I think you need more info than an editor if your asking.
