Hi im wondering, firstly if im allowed to ask this here, and second what you think of my new site. Im an amature web builder, as you can tell from my site, and i'd like to know what others think of it, or really more how i can improve it. I know its really simple and could do with some graphics, but im just not sure...
Any suggesstions would be very welcome, about the looks, feel, and of course the content as well. The sites only been there for about 3 days, so its been a slap-dash job getting all the PHP scripts together, and the login section still needs some work. Also, how to allow users to sign-up automatically would be another great thing. Im using WHM if it helps.
My site is GrumpyPotato.co.uk by the way.
Cheers,
MiKe

I think you want a review on your site? Well first of all this is the wrong section.
Second, you should work on yoursite a bit more and work with some images. Since you said you were amature at this here's a tip, find a template you like from online. save the screenshot and try to copy it. That way you can develop your skills. I don't think you should start a webhosting company if you don't know the technicals behind it. Get some knowledge and then get started. good luck

That hurt my eyes. Don't use such a bright solid color as your background.
Your site functions well as everything is easy to get to and use, but I didn't look around because my eyes were burning from the background.

it is like freewebspace
it looks simple and cool
better to think of slightly different backgrounds for the three columns
use some logo.
there are no meta tags.

did you use a web builder to do that, or did you do it urself, lots of problems with the source where the DOCTYPE, and try to keep the source clean and well formed, it's better for later on if you to edit, you should do what antispyware suggested, plus try and add a border="0" for the <table> tag, it might improve how it looks

Ye when i change the colors i will make the border=0 I did it myself, thats why there are lots of minor things missing. Are the problems with the source bad? Do they affect the way you see it in your browser i mean does it screw up? It was designed for Firefox but should work with IE too... Ok this weekend ill do some work with the HTML cheers

I can help you out with a template I s'pose. I've got a few lying around, or I can make you a new one, simple, but nice. You'd have to add the content and stuff, but i'd give you the basic design.

I cant speak for everyone, but I definiately would not go with that company. Site looks way to unprofessional.

Cheers Romeo18, I was asking for ways to IMPROVE my site, not comments that put people off. Whoever you are even if you ruled the world It would be nice to have some constructive critism rather than a dismissle like that.
Also, 'to' should be 'too', no-one listen to this guy his spelling is way TOO unprofessional - is that good reason? No. I offer good services for free make your own mind up!
If you're looking for free hosting then I'm as good as you'll get at the moment.
BTW anyone thinking of using my hosting, don't worry, buy a domain - we support domain hosting so we can't close your account & steal you're traffic. (Also i dont have dead links in my sig.)
MiKe
Also its good you can admit that you don't speak for everyone.

where is your site?
miketaylor
October 23rd, 2006, 08:23
Where? Do you mean where is the server? The URL is grumpypotato.co.uk
Anyway, i have got some meta-tags in place now and im looking at colors for the table, but i just cant find any that really work, either it looks too gray and dismal or it looks wrong with a large contrast (as it does at the moment).
Also, im still looking for some help with an automated sign-up php script (for WHM)...
Cherers for the offer Keagle, but I'd rather make it myself. I dont really like flashy sites anyway, clean and simple and writtain yourself under the GPL, that work with every browser is the way forward!
A logo, however is haarder to get. I want a cartoon of ...well, a grumpy potato but my graphical and artistic skills are really bad so i'll have to get a friend to do that for me. Should be on its way though!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions
Mike

Okay, well, if you need any help, i'm here!
Heres some Tips though:
Stick to either white or black text, Pink+Red on a Green Background hurts my eyes :)
Add a stylesheet to make more attractive, to make the links more attractive, and the title, make it white, and remove the underline, or, make it a dashed underline :)
Hope this helped :)

Damn your making me hungry.
It reminds me of fresh potato crisps. In my mouth, the old site design (without the colors) looks like it.
Anyway the site design isn't too bad, but it's not much. You should add a logo and a menu or something... Or completely re-make the design.
Ask Keagle for help, I know him as a website designer.

OK i have got a friend to draw me a grumpypotato, problem is hes super-disorganised lol may not be ready for some-time.
A menu is always something i've had problems with, i dont really have enough content to justify a menu here, and i refuse to use flash as it screws with some browsers in some linux distro's so it would be graphics - graphics that i cant make unfortuanatley. style sheets are a bugger to write (i think) although im working on one now. Cheers!

Not that bad for an amateur site, but hosting, even if it's free presupposes professionalism, which couldn't be found in your site. The thing that I detest is the unstructured info in your Free Webhosting Plan, if you intend to use it, do something about it.

I just completed a very hard days work getting a php script to do autosign-ups. I'll admit it needs alot of cleaning but now i can rest in a little more peice knowing that in the morning i will not have an hours manual labour to wake up to, processing sign-ups. I'll get to the free hosting info once ive cleaned up this script ^^ ;)

Krak_Joe you are mentioned after signing up on my site.
Just trying to clean up the PHP script (It sends 5 emails at the moment... three to me, a few too many may i say!)
