nenew it now
you have a couple days of grace period
after that your registar might charge you a late renewal fee of xx$
and after a month or two it'll go back to the available domains pool

You may renew your domain during an expired (nearli 70 days). It depends on the register's rules because they can be different in different registers. Then during 30 days you may still have it back for extra fee and only then it'll be put to auction.

If it's a good one then it can get 'stolen' if it's expired then you may have to wait some time - almost a year so far for one of mine, and not a good un as such but if you can pay the fees then you can have it - apparently anyone can.
Yes I'm also bitter about it!! Git's that stole my name and it's being sold on false stats - as in when it was active and now it is really worth nothing, but the 'carribean' company think it is - tried to get it back on expire date - nope - they had 'pre booked it'

Decker had no luck with his domains.
They even took my cookingpages :(
I emailed them a few times asking how much they'd want for me to have it back. And, well zero replies. bummer
