Hello. I work for a stock broker company and my boss writes books on how to be successful with the the stock market. His books are pretty popular (Even recommended by Barnes and Nobles).

We've decided that we would like to transfer the books onto a CD and sell the cd instead. However, knowing how the computer world works, we fear that only a few people would purchase the cd and makes copies of it and give it out at no charge. We are asking for your advice. How can we prevent people from coping the cd and handing it out for free or prevent a company from purchasing one cd and handing it to all their employees for free?

We are willing to pay around $1,000 dollar for anti-whatever you call it software or anything to prevent it.

Your advice is appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Robert

so pay 1000 for anti-PIRACY programs. Either way, if someone asks a cracker to crack it, they will.

Require online registration.

One person would sign up and give his password to everyone. Thats how the warez industry works.

To be blunt, with companies willing to spend multi-millions of dollars on piracy protection and yet still turning up nothing that's been successful, I doubt your single grand will get very far. Stick to printed text is my suggestion.

Well..if it's an E-Book, not many people really want to crack an E-Book about stocks...I dont think thats what warezers are interested in.

Well, I know there is some sort of way to copy protect CD's from certain applications from copying them. Whoever is publishing your CD could know about it. But I like the online registration idea. Have serial numbers that have to be verified online, and say, only allow a number to be verified once a month or something...but don't tell anyone that. I doubt if anyone would bother making a crack against such a thing as stock e-book. Besides, if the price is reasonable, you shouldn't have any problems.

Yeah...that was hilarious. Sony came out with an uncrackable/uncopyable dvd, and it got cracked with a day or two of release. I'll bet they felt stuuuuupid....
