I just bought a new computer so I can use it for my own personal needs, as it'll be placed in my house as a desktop.
It has;
Intel Viiv
Duo Core Processor
250GB Space Hardrive
1GB DDR RAM
350MB Graphics Card
19" LCD Flat Panel
Windows XP (Vista compatable)
All-in-one printer. (Scanner, copier, printer)
Spy Sweeper & Norton Anti Virus installed.
Everything Is Heward Packard (HP) [Hardrive, Monitor, mouse, keyboard, printer]
& alot more stuff!
For $1,500 (roughly) do you guys think this was a good deal? And, I have a mail-in rebate of $100.
It was on a special display at BestBuy.

I don't need that much space even 80GB would be efficient for me. It's not like I'll be downloading alot alot of stuff.
And, I just need the basic sweeps and anti-viruses just to keep my PC clean. I won't be visiting porno sites :P and downloading warez and such so it should be clean.

It's good to have the freedom of a big hard drive, so you won't ever worry about filling it up.

What processor and video card is it exactly? It doesn't seem like that great of a deal, really.
I just picked up this for $429:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
1GB DDR2
80GB SATA II
16x DL DVD+-RW
GeForce 7300LE
I picked up a 7900GS for $160 and I'll throw another gig of RAM in there eventually.

I won't be playing hardcore games on this PC either, it'll basically just to surf, buy things online, etc. etc. May play a few games here and then. But, I don't think it's going to be a major problem.

November 4th, 2006, 21:22
First of all, you spent $1500 on that computer? And second, you need 2GB of RAM to surf the internet? Man you got taken.
.Joe.
November 4th, 2006, 21:29
What I mean is right now, I might later on put to bigger use. But for a few months, I'll just be surfing, etc. Later on I might do something more with it.
And, I actually didn't pay really anything :P
I had 1,000$ worth in gift cards :P, so really only the $450 I paid, and I get the 100$ rebate, so really 350$.
And, the sales rep. there was telling me this was what I should get and right for my needs.

I think it is a solid computer. It was pricey, but if it works for you than by all means.
Is it at least Norton 07? If you have 06, take it back to best buy and trade it out for 2007.

November 10th, 2006, 20:38
By all means its an excellent computer, but for $1500 you can get the top of the line core 2 duo's with more HD, more RAM, better video etc.

Yeah, you should have done a bit more research before buying that rig. Also, get rid of Norton, and get AVG/Kaspersky/NOD32.

first order of business if you buy a 'brand name' computer: blow their dirtbag software off there with a nice clean format and install of windows

I also despise HP products anymore. They've got so many things preinstalled on there, it's horrible. And so many rebates, it's a nightmare.
I used to say HP was wonderful, I bought my 2nd and 3rd PCs from them. An early Pavilion and a Vectra. Both were fantastic. But HP's a lot different now.

HP was also known for sending a homing signal with their keyboards, with everything that the user had typed, the person responsible apparently had good intentions, only to see if specific task keys were being used, but it has made me never trust HP again.
