Hey guys I'm currently a reseller and wanted to know some info on the dedicated servers the ups and downs of it. Also what is it?

And any suggestions to get out of a resselling company that gives me:
7GBSpace
70GbBandwidth
$10/month

but with horrible uptime?

Dedicated Server:
Look at your PC case. Now imagine that computer sitting at a datacenter somewhere. That's a dedicated server.

The cheapers dedicated servers come in at about 80$/mo including cpanel. And they usually have mediocre hardware. Think celeron with 512mb ram.

The biggest difference about a dedicated server is that you manage everything. You'r in control. From apache to security settings.

For some that's the negative part as they have no idea how to do it.
For other that's the positive part, as they can configure the server exactly how they want it.

So I'm not sure if a dedicated server would be for you if you had no idea what one is. I suggest finding another reseller or finding a new hobby. I wonder how you support your custumers.

To get yourself out of the current company, go find a more reliable company and host with them. Then cancel your old reseller account after you move all the stuff over.

ok,
ups of a dedi:
root access
more freedom
Install your own programs to make your hosting services better etc.
Downs of a dedi:
You have to worrie about cpu/ram etc ALOT more.
sometimes a crappy dedi may make you feel very limited..
For anything even worth kicking you need to spend around 140$

As other people said, you can control every aspect of it, to make it as perfect as you want.

You need to have the skillz, otherwise it becomes difficult lol.

One goes with the other, the more skill you have in server management, the better you can configure the server and all.

In relation to your reseller, at that price I wouldn't expect anything more, as I'd charge almost double for that :P

A web hosting server used by a single client company; more broadly, a single computer in a network reserved for network needs is called Dedicated Server

If you are building a more complex business or corporate or high end E-Commerce site, you will need more space and security - a web server dedicated to your business, the equivalent of an entire office building, which will be exclusively of your server.

In my opinion you should go with VPS. Stability depends on many factors. And the most stability DC has probability to break. You should to remember it.

Help for nothing ... he he. I think it can help if you have got basic knowledge of hosting management, if not - niobedy and nothing help you except system admins.

You shouldn't move from a resellers account to a dedicated unmanaged without basic knowledge of server administration.

Yes you are right. But as far as I know there are a lot of control panels which very helpful in administration.

Yes and no...
It is foolish to think the control panel will do it all for you!
Many people think this tho... its simple really it isnt true
You can only do so much in a control panel!
SSH & putty well also be your best friend. :P
