Most of the users do opt for paypal, but some countries doesn't encourage it. Then the other alternative would be credit card.

I voted for paypal.. But really it is both credit card and paypal - since paypal does take credit cards. but I do have some companies that pay me by check.
Thanks,

Paypal is nice, unless you have a billing problem. If something happens, paypal will NEVER admit to being wrong. I have heard alot of horror stories. They favor the client over the company in almost all situations. Which can translate to bad news bears for a web host.

Put PP, as it allows me to collect whether a PP customer or direct CC payments.

Credit cards are the way to do it. Easy to manage via billing system, no hoops to jump through, easier fraud verification, less expensive.
paypal is fine but it always seems to take more time spent per transaction vs a cc transaction. CC is just smooth sailing
Decker

CC Pro allows that, direct CC payments, it's called a merchant account, using this method allows both with only one API to take into account :)

yep, we have a merchant account of course. I just hate going through all the billing system for orders/invoices and then having to pop over to paypal to do more work. I would rather have it all in once place without double verifying paypal transactions went through

You can tie it in with some of the popular accounting packages as we do, so it's just reconciliation really.

Having the ability to accept most of the major forms of payment is the best way to go as your business begins to grow. Paypal is a good source to begin with, but a true merchant account in addition is the best route in the long run.

Credit card using a proper merchant account.
We accept paypal, but it accounts for only about 16 to 17% of our payment volume..
PayPal doesn't accept transactions from a number of countries, and PayPal doesn't offer the same protections and services a bank does... With a merchant account, your funds go directly to your bank account, and you can store credit card numbers on your system. storing credit card numbers, and controlling when and how you charge your customers adds flexibility. Also.. storing credit card #s means that if you ever have a problem with your payment processor, you can change easily without losing billing information.

Not quite true with the PP merchant account, it is a full blown merchant, and the manager.control panel allows full management including a virtual terminal to take manual CC payments, all the features of say WorldPay without some of the hassles and the high costs.

to my understanding, PayPal doesn't allow you to store CC #s and charge them.
Decker

It's not an automatic feature it's an add-on for recurring payments to the merchant, it's done in a modular fashion so you just pay for the bits you need from the service :)

Paypal great for paying, horrid for receiving - expect losses but users want to use it.

They are the best option from the clients point of view but the rest you say is a bit out there as it's still down to the processor & not less expensive, run a merchant account and a processor plus a secured payment gateway..... If you get one that does all then you'll still pay about the same rate.
Not pushing PP as it's no gain to me but they have extended the 'free' period for the pro merchant till 1st April, and I've no complaints so far.

I think i prefer paypal because of the ease of use and popularity and like Decker said its about the same cost as having a traditional merchant account with less the headace so thats why we choose it.

You must have been doing something wrong then - and security measures are rarely stupid, maybe you'd like to say what they said as your wording is quite vague.

You can but it has to go through a precious metals broker, works out about the same costs as with PP for withdrawals.

Paypal, then e-gold, I'd like to ask those who vote for CC aren't you afraid of carders, especially if it's a client from abroad, how do you check that he doesn't provide you with somebody else's cc details?

That's what the merchant processor does, fraud checking is part of the service.

Had an account for years now with it and never had a problem, cash in and out. :)
It's just that the site is a bit plain and apart from your account management not much going on.

But what if that special broker goes out of business? You're stuck with virtual gold coins :p

There are loads of them and they all have to insure their funding by already having their 'working' capital securely lodged with their bankers :P
