What do you think about IPv6???
Will this mess they call ips ever take off?
Should they have invented longer ipv4 ips such as 208.0.0.0.0.21.blah
Instead of adding letters?

I personaly think one day it will be a good idea to be using differnt ip system that way there will be less rules on ips!
But do you think they could of made it a better system than jHjk23:32jGhjgKj:khJKHjk:90uH98: etc blah? :devious2:

IP's have been running out for years, the extension is required like it or not or we're limited to what is remaining in the pool, private LAN's aren't effected just public ranges but as everyone 'needs' an online prescence it's a minefield for those not knowing what they need and grabbing blocks regardless.
The implimentation also has to mesh with existing facilities, so I'm guessing it's more compatibility than choice.
They've been going at this for about 10 years I believe so not much anyone could do to change their minds now I wouldn't think.

Yes I just think the IPv6 system is a total mess and they could of done a better job! lol

Usual result with design by commitee jobs....

Makes it a tad harder for LANS

But do you think they could of made it a better system than jHjk23:32jGhjgKj:khJKHjk:90uH98: etc blah? :devious2:I'm not sure you understand what IPv6 is... it's not just a bunch of letters and numbers, it's (128 bit) hex.

e.g. 3ffe:ffff:0100:f101:0210:a4ff:fee3:9566

It's not really too big of an issue anyway. LANs are still small enough to continue using v4, and I dunno about you, but when I'm on the net I find myself using domains rather than IPs to get where I'm going more often that not. ;)

Every day I type in 10's of IPv4 IP's. I agree typing out 128 bits may be a little more user-unfriendly, but...meh.

It's coming, and that it's needed.

If everything (TVs, computers, stereos, refridgerators, etc) is networked as predicted, we may need more than 128-bit IPs.

So long as it's not 512Cubed IP addresses.

??? sorry ive lost you now, but i think i agree that 128 bit is needed.

512 x 512 x 512 = 512 to the power of 3, or 512Cubed. I can't do a small 3.. =P

134217728 bit?

The natural progression would be full ASCII.

Ok
I know the need for more ips is needed but thats just a messy fix!
And I type alot of ips all day!

Yeh, it's necessary, and just about everything new today has IPv6 support, even things which are years old.

The reason is....mobile phones and such gadgets. Everything these days has an IP address....everything, so they need more, so they made this system.

Is it a total mess? I don't understand what you mean there. It's a system, which achieves it's purpose in the most efficient way possible.

Will it be a b*tch trying to remember IPv6 ips? Hell yes it will....but I'm sure we'll get used to it.

I mean messy as in totaly hard to remember you will no longer be able to type your ip range really quickly etc,,,

But I look FW to it becuse it will allow people like me to have more ips!!!

Yeh, though I don't think they will make them TOO cheap, because they'll just run out really quickly again.

Yeh, it will be harder to remember, but the human brain is far more than capable of remembering anything, let alone as 128bit hex string.

maybe he is the type of person who insists on manually shifting his automatic transmission too. MAN I HATE THAT!

oh and also turning on their parking lights because it just isn't dark enough to put on the normal headlights!
