I say it is going to happen sooner or later, so when it happens BRING IT ON.

I don't fear the word and I'm not afraid in the sense that I think about it all the time or worry about it. When someone close to me has been dying though, yes I've been scared, not to say petrified. Think I will be scared when it's my turn too.

Hi,
if you loose some one whom you love the most that have been very close to yur heart and life and that person goes away from your life due to any reason, the thought itself of loosing your beloved is more scary than death.

Only if you know you are dying. If you have a terminal illness lasting a while, you learn to accept that you are dying sometime *soon* and go in peace.
If you have a terminal illness where the prognosis is *a few days to a month* then acceptance isn't so forthcoming and you may die before you come to terms with the inevitability.
I think sudden death would have to be the way to go. But that is very hard on loved ones left to grieve :crysad:

I don't fear the word death.... but I do fear the instance of it. I wouldn't want to have to see it in person, don't like it when someone I know dies, and wouldn't want to know about my own death in advance.
It's kind of funny to fear returning to the state which we were all in for 14 billion years or so already, just because we've had a few years out of that state. It's a fact of evolution though... everything that didn't fear death died before reproducing.
The only people who really don't fear death at all are the dead. They couldn't care less, so it doesn't seem like a bad thing to them.

I am an existentialist, so death is accepted, and is inevitable. I have learned to cherish every moment I have here since I do not believe in an afterlife or god. I am not afraid of death, though I do get upset if I do lose a loved one, but also know it is inevitable and you must keep moving on.

I'd bet most existentialists fear death. Otherwise, they wouldn't all choose goals that involve life. If you don't fear death, why not just jump off a mountain for the sake of the nice view you get on the way down?
I consider death inevitable and don't believe in an afterlife, and know there's no objective reason why I should think death is bad, but that doesn't change the fact that I prefer being alive.

However, it's much easier to be dead than to be alive. Dead is the natural state, life takes work. Someone neutral on the issue would sit around and starve to death, because they'd see no need to prefer life. Anyone who makes an effort to live is obviously expressing a preference for life over death.

There's also a difference between accepting death and not being afraid of it.

Someone once called me fearless. I had a gun pulled on me in a family group. I told the guy he'd better pull the trigger before I get to him. He went down hard. I knew that no matter what I did, myself or a family member could die that day. I prefered it be me than any of them.
Death and the prospect of death does not scare me. Dying a meaningless death for no reason does. I believe that whatever is on the other side is better than here, so I'm not afraid to go there. I think more people are afraid of the pain they may have to go thru, rather than death itself....eg: drowning or burning to death..

death is not a big deal. I see it every day in the hospital.
I guess I am just a bit disensitized...
