Hi, I'm completely new to setting up a website and have had no experience at all!! Firstly I need to get a web address and then host. How do I get a web address? Also, I don't know anything about hosts and am not sure which one to go for? I would like to create a site that I can have the main title page, a page for approx 12 mins audio clips, a page for musicians profiles, post band photos, a testomonials page and a contact link for people to email us!
Is it possible to get a free host to do this? Which host would you recommend and what size and bandwidth should I be looking for?

Thanks

You probably don't need much resources to begin with.

I'd suggest try requesting for hosting at the request forums, you might get several good offers there.

Web address: unless you're willing to pay for a .com, stick to a host who'll get you a free subdomain.

Good luck.

Yeah the requests forum would do you well, You could also try zoomcities, Their system would fit yours, as you could learn about how to make your site the easy way and get a small plan to fit your needs.

Or you could try James site, your-websites.com ( doesnt know why james didnt suggest it :p )

Hi richkeys! Welcome to FWS! :)

Yes, it is possible to find a free host to fulfill your request. :) As far as registering a Web address, I would recommend GoDaddy or Namecheap.

Cheers!

Get free hosting and then download the free version of Jamroom. It will solve your website problem very easily. http://www.jamroom.net

Enjoy.

Lots of free web hosts should fufill your requests. Namecheap is a good registrar, i'd recommend them to you.

Well if you don't have any experience creating or setting up a website maybe the best bet would be just to do what everybody else does and set them up a myspace page. (www.myspace.com) It's free, it's push button publishing, and it's a great way for the band to get some exposure. You can upload up to 4 MP3s on an artist account.

If you use myspace be sure to sign up for an artist's account rather than a regular user account or you won't be able to upload MP3s.

As far as the domain name goes, you can always just point it to the band's myspace page after you create it. If you need help doing that I can help manage your domain for you.
