As I browse through the Webspace Request forum, all I see is requests after request that just says "XXX space, XXXX gig of bandwidth, no ads, no post...etc".

Nearly all requests are identical.

However, as a dedicated server owner, what I look for are people with existing websites, or at least describe the content of site that they want to make. Better still, post an existing URL.

As far as I observe, only about 20% of requests offer any kind of description of the website they want to make.

For me, as a potential hoster, I don't really worry too much about the specs they want, it's the content that I am more interested in.

well it does come kind of hand in hand, if they just want a blog, then the chances are that they wont be needing massive specs, obviously if they have existing websites this becomes redundant.

Good point though, not many people do offer enough info. :)

If hosts offer it, people will continue to request it.

You should all understand that... not everyone has a website to start with. May the person requesting is just starting or maybe he/she wants to experiment.

It is mainly because there are web hosts who take up all kind of requests. It doesn't do us any good when they have no sense of a filtering system.

I agree about the more info part, but an normal website blog or anything like that which havn't been created yet is a bit hard to post URL to.

Yes, I understand not everyone has a site to start with (and hence unable to post a URL). However, it would be good if they can give a full description of the site they are making.

What is even better is if they can post a screenshot of the site in-progress (from the site in they harddrive).

I guess the point I am making is that the hostees will be much more likely to get an offer (for their own benefit) from a host if the content of the website is fully described ( including traffic stats) as opposed to a simple request asking for space/bandwith/cpanel/no ads.

I agree with allanh. I can remember when I first started using this site, not too long ago, when people did explain what they wanted and they would often choose between ads or posts not:

10GB spice
50GB badwitch
unlimited everfing
NO POST OR ADS
instant activation you w**kers!!!
I want iot nowwwwwwwwww!!!

Anyway, i'm going to make a nice sandwich......
