did you plugged it to another computer before it's broken?

Did you try to reformat it?

You might want to try reformatting your thumbdrive. If not, try to use your thumbdrive on another computer.

What OS too?
With older operating systems you may have to install drivers.

I think he killed it by NOT doing the "safely remove hardware"

I think that is to make windows not stuff up when you take it out, but i could be wrong.

I think that is to make windows not stuff up when you take it out, but i could be wrong.no, if there are open files/files being read from the drive, it'll kill it.

it will corrupt the file, but it wont stop you from reformatting

If the device and comp require it you must do a 'safely remove' to cut the power to the USB port, some devices are still sensitive to sudden power changes.
Try formatting it, if it won't then you have a small paperweight.

My guess is that it died.

you should take better care of your USB flash drives.

^^^Wanted to chime in about the above posts about "safely removing hardware"
All that does, is force any files that are in the cache to be written to the drive. If a file was indeed in the midst of a transfer when you pulled the drive, it will not physically damage the drive, HOWEVER, it very well may corrupt some data on the drive or cause errors.
As far as your thumb drive goes, it may just be dead. Flash memory, while a high number, does have a limit to how many read/writes it can survive through. I use two thumb drives on a suite of probably 10 PC's a day and they only last about eight or nine months each for me.
