This is the only feedback I have to give FWS, great going!
You've got a great community, great mods, great admins and great smilies!

Way to go :D

I agree, everything here is good except for the free hosting. :)

It will be perfect if they can get that sorted out. But other than that, the community is awesome.

That is why this community was built :S

I am sure the majority arrived here because they were looking for or offered free web hosting. That was the original intention of the forum. The fact that it has expanded to include a heck of a lot more won't ever make it shift away from free hosting.

It only means that this site has evolved, and I see it as a great achievement.
Congratulations! :applaudin :God:

Yup I understand that... I am more of getting the point why no restrictions are really put on the requests now...

This is the ONLY forum I have been a member of for this long.....wait let me re-state that....This is the ONLY forum I visited more than ten times in my life. I have no clue why. I spend my exam weeks on here for no reason instead of studying. Thanks FWS for ruining my GPA :p

Jan,

The post rate on this forum has decreased in the last 6 months. You (FWS) banned most of the big timers awhile ago, and with them, most the other respected members followed them to other forums.

If you take out the crap posts (100GB+ Free hosting requests and offers) and the 1TB hosts, what is left on this forum? Well lets check.

118 Unread Posts since your last visit.

I'll be back soon ;)

EDIT: Well, I cannot actually be bother, but I estimate that only 20-30% of posts made on this forum are not crap.

Thanks for your nice comments Nugi and the rest of you.

hosting-shack, I just checked and we had more posts here in March 2007 then we did 6 months ago. Your claims are simply not supported by the facts.

We've never had any respected members permanently banned here. If they once were respected they lost all of that prior to getting banned. As for the quality of this forum I think your views are in the minority. I see you are still here, so I guess you contradict yourself slightly. :)

Is it because of me being banned around 6 months ago?
I remember making 50 posts in 1-3 days that time before I was banned.
Not to mention almost half of all my posts were deleted. :D

Banned = Slow Down.
So I'll just take it slow.

I gotta say, although I'm still visiting the forums regularly, I stay well away from ANY of the hosting sections, in the free hosting section people are forever making unrealistic requests and in the paid section people are forever making slightly shady requests - ie, can I pay with a stolen credit card, can I host warez / torrentflux, stuff like that.....

Wether you like it or not peo, this isn't the place it was this time last year, there are very few large free hosting providers left ( that make themselves known ), I firmly believe that's because FWS has allowed the very idea of free hosting to be degraded so much that no body feels they can keep up with the enormous requests made by the users of this forum, even though you don't want to, it's a fact that you should be controlling the way people request free hosting ( at least free hosting ), if you do not, you'll have thousands of members looking to get a free dedicated server and absolutely no members offering it to them ... my 2 cents .....

Jan

People have been chasing free dedicated since 2001. Nothing has changed at all, just more people complaining about it. But then all forums have -----fests. Even WHT has threads going way back to 2000 saying "this forum is going downhill", meanwhile the membership grows at a constant pace as do most forums that were founded earlier than the wannabe clones that spring up every day.

Here's just one request I found in 2001 http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10185

You're still not gettin it, just because you have members and people still join, that doesn't mean anything, whats to say they will come back ?? whats to say they ever request or reply to a request, while having members is great, and growing as a community is great, your members are unhappy with the way it works, so instead of spending the next 8 years trying to play it down, why not just do something about it ?? you never know you might make fws an even better place to be .....

Some of you complaining have been here for just a few months. Those of us who've been here for around 10 years know that not that much has changed when it comes to unreasonable requests.

Obviously what we then considered to be unreasonable is now sometimes reasonable. And even today what most of us would consider to be unreasonable requests do get several replies with offers. So, again, where do we draw the line?

krakjoe, any warez hosting requests and similar abuses will be deleted instantly. If it's not, please report it to us.

Dawing the line is something that you should do, you use your 10 years in the hosting industry, you use your time and experience running this forum to come to a sensible conclusion, the people coming here - myself included - are not equipped to make that decision, but I feel it is a decision that should be made, and so do many other of your members here.

It's not just something that hosts would appreciate, I think a fair amount of ridiculous requests are made because even the requester doesn't know what they need, they come to a part of the forum where all sorts goes on they get the idea that there are no restrictions on free hosting and it starts, then that member gets slated by members who are sick and tired of people trying to take the proverbial, then that member leaves because everyone has had a go at them or just because they aren't getting what they asked for, they'll go somewhere else, WHT for instance make a more sensible request - because of what they have learned here - and you have lost another user, that a perfectly reasonable scenario and I'll bet it happens all the time.

I can understand that you don't want to make it so restrictive that people do not request anything in the first place, but I just don't see that happening, anyone looking for hosting knows how to use a form, and with helpfull information authored by yourself along the way they'll be able to make an informed decision and be spoiled for choice when choosing a host because more people will answer to the sensible request.
