View Full Version : Ridiculous warning recieved from a mod

I have recieved my first warning at FWS, for a lite-joke in a Lounge forum.

I posted, exactly:

"Guys let's lock this thread, this is getting out of hand."

In the following forum thread in quoting colin's post which is also gone for some reason.

http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2186636

allanh, if you are going to warn people for what you call "pointless one liners" you should be warning 80 percent of the members' posts in that forum. You started that thread, great, but it doesn't mean that you abuse your powers to delete whatever post you feel like because it's your thread.

I think this is totally ridiculous, I have never seen anything like that here and am asking for a serious reconsideration of this pointless warning and deletion of harmless posts.

Totally ridiculous.

( ^ That is a one liner, lets see if I get the same treatment).

EDIT: Either the OP or another mod has also deleted my posts.

I removed the trolling posts referencing another topic. You can't just start saying this will be closed because .......

You can't just start saying this will be closed because .......

So you personally agree with the warning for that post?

Yup, I have no problems with that, in fact I agree with you. I was simply stating it was removed but that doesn't bother me at all :classic2:.

"Closing threads" has been a sensitive topic in recent days. Like the reason I gave you, there is no need to exacerbate this issue in unrelated threads.

Otherwise everyone will start throwing lines like "this thread is going to be closed" blah blah blah in every single thread as a joke.

Well I am on James side,

The rate threads are being closed I think he had every right to say that. It was an educated guess

If you still think that was a valid warning, or even anywhere close to being one - that's your problem, but there are multiple flaws in your decision.

As mentioned in this thread Craig wrote more than one line in that same thread about "closing threads, pointless thread because it will be locked anyway". He didn't get a warning did he?

You:

1: Firstly already decided that "Guys let's lock this thread, this is getting out of hand." was inappropriate. If you saw the posts that were above mine, before it was also deleted, you will see that actually it was just a follow on and my comment was dubiously light-hearted and I was softening the situation.

2: You also mentioned "pointless one liners". You warned with that reason and then the next minute in the same thread, you post this: http://freewebspace.net/forums/showpost.php?p=855422&postcount=24 And looking through your post history, I don't see much different.

3: You don't take it seriously: "please don't exacerbate the "closing thread" arguments :-)" - what's that smilie for? Do you think it's fun or something?

4: Finally, to sum up, IMO if you cared for good will, or peace, you would have not warned me for such a small, harmless comment.

3. Posts unrelated to the forum topics are not allowed. Please post general comments/conversations in the General Discussions forum. Nonsense posting only to increase your number of posts is not allowed. This is a discussion forum, not a chat room.

This is a direct quote from the rules of the forum.

How is "This post is going to be closed" related to the topic of the thread, which is asking the age of members?

If you can connect the relevance of the your post to the thread topic, then I will reverse the warning.

p.s btw, I have not closed any of the threads. So stop relate everything to thread closures.
And giving mods negative reps for moderating your posts won't do you any favours:cool2:

It was an alert that doesn't carry points. If you all keep trolling threads saying they should be closed because you had one closed, you will certainly see a points warning or a temp break from the forum.

If you can connect the relevance of the your post to the thread topic, then I will reverse the warning.

So,

1: You give warnings for any kind of posts which are not related to the thread topic? You have a lot of warnings to give out, including posts by yourself. But you think you are immune from that now don't you?

2: Now, I have to beg you to reverse the warning?

3: Regards rep, you deserved a -ve in my eyes so I gave you one. I have the rights to do that. I'm not going to give you a positive just because you are a mod.

It's not something for you to worry about, James.

Firstly, there might be some confusion among members about the difference between warnings and infractions. So, let me explain that first.

This warning did not give you any infraction points James. It was more of a point of contact. We have two levels within the warning system. One is alerts that don't get you any points and is intended for moderators to give info about a not so serious problem with your post. Then there are infractions that are more serious and will give you points. If you reach 10 points you will get temporarily or permanently banned. Again, you received no points for this at all.

Please have som patience with the new moderators and don't give out bad reputation to mods unless it's really warranted. It's better to contact me or some other mod privately first. We're trying to help out and do our job here as best we can.

I agree, I guess your just the unlucky one James, I don't think the mods will give each other warnings no matter how many pointless posts allanh made.

Am not trying to cause uproar, just giving my opinion. Its like, allanh, you should practice what you preach. Did I get that right .

James doesn't post one liners, he helps allot of members, sure, last year he was a grumpy asss but hes cooled down & nearly all of his posts are above two-three lines. In fact I thought he would make it as a FWS mod this year.

I understand new mods make mistakes, it happens, I have no problem with them even though I will support fellow members who have been treated inappropiately.

Thanks for that post.

Just want to make a final point about this incident that I don't appreciate allanh's attitude towards this at all. But that is his personal issue.

James, it sounds you still don't get it. You were warned because of bringing up a sensitive subject (thread closure) on top of it being irrelevant to the thread topic (which is asking "What is your age?").

The bottomline is that if you want to exacerbate what is already a heated debate in another thread and compound it in all the other threads, all similar posts will get removed ( mind you, other mods removed your post for "trolling" prior to my warning).

If you don't like my modding style, feel free to complain to the administrators. I won't change as long as you want to bring "Thread Closure" to other posts as a joke.

If you have further gripes about it, feel free to debate me via personal messaging.
