Image/template hosting question

Say you are hosting multiple copies of a cms for your members, and the cms you are using allows you to make html templates that members can select in the admin cp of their cms installation.

Would it be better to just upload all of the templates and template images to one directory and so that your member's webites could all use the same templates/images in that directory, or would it be better to upload the templates/images in a new directory for each individual installation of the cms?

I don't think you can really do that. Each site will have it's own content. Site a will be using the template in a different way then site b. Hence the need for seperate folders :)
