I have dealt with alot of fraud and spammers lately. Mostly fraud. Do you think that lower prices means more fraud? I accept e-gold too but does that mean that people are more likely to fraud you if you use e-gold? Do lower prices mean that the service will be bad? If you can't afford better services or people to hire in order to compete, should you even be in the hosting business? I want your opinion.

I had looked into using e-gold as a payment gateway. Just the fact that someone can order your service without proof of ID was enough for me to say NO!! TO e-gold as a payment gateway.

I think in general that lower prices do mean a lower standard of service. That may not be the case with all providers. Yet i am guessing 95% of the host that use the practice of very low prices with aggresive overselling does = a short time span for host and sub standard service.

Of course in the Hosting industry it is very hard to compete with those type of sellers.

There just seems to be a lot more of it going around now than it used to. I don't really do anything more than "pretend" to be a host, but even I get a few fraud requests from time to time.

I think that you have to try to check all of your new customers. It is boring work. Or increse prices. Spammers aways looking for cheap sioutions.

I think I'm going to increase my prices since its not paying for the server anyways.

Well, I get them all the time. Currently i've got one who uses every proxy to try and sign up to fraud paypal, which I reported him/her to. It's rediculous, I nearly shut down because of them....

Paypal recognize any proxy. As far as I know proxy doesn't work with paypal.

Sorry I put that wrong. I means she/he signs up with a proxy and makes websites like this:

hehe, DotCom that isnt always true, I have tested this myself.

Also Ralph, the cost has nothing to do with how much fraud you get. it is that time of the year again, kids out of school.

Simple, ask them their number. Contact them via phone (no matter ISD/STD) just call!. Should scare them in the beginnin.

Check ph info from PayPal.

Atleast thats the only way I do.

From my experience, it seems fraud users and scammers do perfer the cheaper plans. I would guess this would be so they do not loose as much if they do get shut down.

Agreed scam sites last less then a month sometimes just a few days, They always go for the cheap prices.

e-gold tends to attract fraudulent users. So does low pricing - so you've nailed both problems on the head. :)

not sure that low prices attracts scammers and fraud users although I am sure it doesn't help. Most of the fraud users that come through us are after the high priced goods.

personally I think these fraud users are looking for small time hosting companies who are not aware how to spot fraud and are more likely to have automatic account processing

Yes, your prices would attract people looking to create paypal/ebay scammers. After all, why do you think free hosting gets so many scammers? because it's free.
