Do think it'd be possible to unlock the iphone? There was a supreme court ruling in the US saying it's legal to do so.

here in the uk you can go to any indepenant phone shop and pay a tenner, and bob's your uncle there u got

Is it possible? Sure. Is it legal? Absolutely. Has it be done? Not yet.

Eventually someone will come up with a solution to unlocking the phone.

iphone will be hard to unlock as its only aviable on one network, wait till the launch is world wide

Someone, Somewhere will unlock it, knowing some of these geeks it might even happen on the 1st day :p

Plus, sometimes a "code" entered can unlock a phone, if Apple have done this, and somebody leeks the code....

I just want the ipod part of the iphone, which is why I'm asking.

I think quite a few of the features are going to depend on the network (visual voice mail comes to mind). I would expect it will be possible to get it running on another network, but I'd think you'd lose quite a lot of the usability.

That said, if you really only want it for the iPod features I'm sure someone will get it unlocked pretty soon. Damn expensive iPod though...

Took a £160 LG Chocolate into our local turban sporting ( or "independant" as you put it ) phone shop gave the bloke a tenner and waited 5 days, only to be given a broken phone back that didnt even turn on - plus we can't return it because they attempted to flash an o2 firmware onto an orange phone.

These places are good with phones that have been around for a while, or are made by nokia, otherwise, not so much.....

I wish the Iphone was available with Verizon. I dont feel like switching to ATT/Cingular - the service isn't as great and I already have a plan with Verizon.

I wish the Iphone was available with Verizon. I dont feel like switching to ATT/Cingular - the service isn't as great and I already have a plan with Verizon.
Same, but I wish it was with MetroPCS. Metro's great.

Wow i havent used Metro sense my 2-Way days...im pretty sure someone will unlock it but as others said it will lose alot of usability once its been done..i know on a lot of unlocked phones the internet, pic mail etc doesnt work..

That may be possible,but not will like an iphone.
Iphone is a revolutionary phone,I will get it when it come to Europe..
It can be unlocked,one of my friend did it,and he is using it properly..

it actually is legal to unlock any phone. there was a ruling allowing it, and allowing carriers to lock the phones if they want. also, they are very close to cracking it already. you can actually get the most recent news about it here (http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page).

also, Devin, you suck, i was going to post a thread like this a minute ago till i saw you already did. oh well.

they said on the site that they know ow to unlock, but certain things need to be tested to make sure it will work properly or something like that. you know of anyone that says that it is cracked on the net?

If they get it fully cracked then i might actually spring for one..:D but i just dont want to switch carriers just for the phone.
