It's a second class product, not much time at all has been put into it's developent or GUI.

The only good part about it is the forced ad's, but now they have released iAd's, you can use another billing system or account creator.

Only tried the others for a short time, but I would still give cPanel/WHM an 8 or 9 out of 10 - as would most integration options for most things.

Not perfect but as good as it gets - not from a host POV but a clients.

Care to elaborate? The OP is trying to decide whether to buy it or not, so an explanation would be helpful.

Sure, the reason why i didn't care for it to much is because it wasn't as flexible as i needed it to be. As far as management of client accounts, domain registration etc. it just did not do everything i needed it to do. So i went with WHMCS

Adding onto XSIS's comment;

And the features it does have, may look good on paper, but the way they work in the actual product are not the way you want them too, for example, client and hosting management, it's so easy in WHMCS and even CE, but iPanel cannot seem to get even the simplest of tasks right, having to make the user change pages 3-5 times to find what they are looking for other than 1-2 times in WHMCS (CE is around 2-3 times).

In conclusion, it may have great features, but it's like a very young child with a computer, it may have the goods (or features) but it has no clue how to use them. It needs to "grow up" a lot. iPanel is not yet mature enough to operate correctly.

I have not tried either, but I am using tPanel at the moment. Can't be beat for the price $30 one-time payment, and the author is putting forced ads functionality into the next version.
It does not do everything, but it does more than $30 worth. Plus you get free upgrades. They have a demo on the site.

iPanel is not really a scalable solution. I mean c'mon it's got a single department for help desk and yet it has very flexible invoice manager system (a free host is likely to use the support more than invoices.) I guess what I'm saying is that some of the stuff they've made for it hasn't been thought through very carefully.

Richard

The invoicing system may be flexible, but it just does not flex to the shape most hosts want it.

I just found the software to be to me an "imitation" trying to compete with the big guys, I always have been a Client Exec fan, this may be why I say that I didn't like it. But looking back at it, CE and then WHMCS I must say that it really is useless.

You kind of missed the point. You see, they have been developing and extending the wrong features here. A free host should have a good helpdesk system, not an invoice manager.

well what is iAds? Because I want to use forced ads on some of my clients sites to help out I have already contacted them and they say its fine so its not like im going to get them angry.

iAds is only the forced ads feature and nothing more to my understanding.

Richard

iAds lets you pick a package in (Created in WHM) and it will then insert ad's onto that account.

Basically - It does the same as iPanel without the crappy billing system, it lets you use your own control panel.

so you are saying WHMcs is useless?

to be honest, I was going in the direction of ipanel, but for a few $$ more, I was
told WHMcs would be better, i also hear ipanel can be hard to get going.
I think i am leaning more toward WHMcs rather then iPanel

iPanel is a nice piece of software, great for free hosting providers, nice features & easy to use.

Well worth the $$.

I agree with Craig.

I fully support iHost and by the looks of it these guys pump a lot of time and money into support.

I personally use their software and I have NEVER had any problems whatsoever.

Don't knock it cuz you envy them =)

We've been using ipanel for a long time and we are really happy with it. It allows you to have custom questions that you can ask your clients during sign up. Offers inactive account termination, account import from cpanel based servers into ipanel. Auto ads on free web hosting site and ability to add notes for client page. We don't use the invoice system since we are free hosting company but everything else in ipanel works flawlessly. The program has matured a lot over the past few months and we are glad that we decided to stick with ipanel from the beginning. I think everyone who said something negative about ipanel should give ipanel a try now. I have a feeling they tried it during the beta stage and prob didn't like it due to few bugs.
