Lately I've been reading through many different forums and alot of the smaller host say that they are going to be around for a long time. What gurantee does the customer recieve if you are not there to run the business.

It's a scary taught but things do happen, im sure that many of us web hosters our here work a real job to pay the hosting bills and other fees etc, so what is going to happen if you are no longer to run the show as a small time web host.

What I would do at this very moment I really am not to sure as I don't feel that I have found that "exact" person who can fill my shoes. What will you be as a web host if you are faced with a situation like this.

I will last as long as I have the will to, which could be anywhere from 23 minutes to a few years. Literally, I have no idea. A part of me wants to give away my clients and just cease operations all together, and that is plenty tempting, I won't lie.

But, I don't want to leave my users stranded either.

My company will last for ever, Since hosting will only be a small part of it.. Some of it will be farming.. some of it will be aussie domains.. Other parts will be local services online - I know if I only did hosting it wouldnt last long (as proved in the past with internalx.net).... But since all the other stuff (excluding farming) will be in need of servers the host section will always be around.. the reason for farming is.. I want to go contact style through my ABN. lol
Im thinking of mabye getting in to domain development to on the side.. I know enough html/php etc all I have to learn is the SEO :o lol anyway.. they are the reasons I wont be to worried about my hosting going under.

Well. I hope Galaxy Solutions will last for many years to come, but as you said, things do happen, but saying that, a fair few months ago, something did happen, which was the reason I did not post on this forum for 2-3 months, we managed to pull over that and keep the same level of support and service we had before.

As long as a host has a backup plan if something really does go wrong, there is no reason why a host would not last for a fair few years. But then again, I'm sure that in 10-20 years the hosting industry for newer hosts will be non existent with company's like godaddy and 1&1 snapping up all the trade.

Galaxy Solutions, LLC has been operating for a year now, but the owners have been managing Galaxy Hosts for nearly 3 years now (Time fly's ;)).

Unlike Matt, I do not ever feel like giving it up at any point, I in fact quite like hosting, and unlike what pirohost said - We are and have been managing ourselves for awhile now, and even have spare to expand.

It will last for as long as I have the finances, the will and the patience to make it last. Simple as that. ;) And so far I don't see any of those running short.

Until humans destroy themselves with nuclear weapons or particle accelerators or anti-matter or Global Warming or 2012 Polar Shift or something of that nature :evilb:

Even when a bomb drops, I will still be providing support for our clients, even if i'm waist deep in muddy water due to global warming, I will still be providing support for our clients.

;) Will YOU?

pirohost, to put it bluntly, there is no way to guarantee this. Not even the host can. Of course, I am sure that most of us (I know that I do, myself) plan to stay around as long as possible. But there are no guarantees.

I dont see us going out of business any time soon. Alot of our business comes from the local market. So that helps out alot, we will be around just as in any other business..we dont intend on closing anytime soon but things could happen to dirupt them but i have a back up plan so im not to worried about it.

We strive to be around as long as possible but as other people have mentioned, bad things can happen to anyone... So far things seem well and we do have back up plans in place.

I have to admit (like Matt), every now and then, things do get frustrating. However, I don't plan on quitting anytime soon.

Theres always a risk that a company will just go out of business, I think thats just a bigger excuse for you to pay good money for your hosting. Honestly, the faster we break even on all of the costs, the faster I can give you a better answer. :) Right now things look OK though, about 60% of our costs are covered, and we've been in business for 7 months now. Even after everything is covered, theres no guarantee... Those support tickets get SO annoying after a while, you just have to work really hard and put up with annoying people if you want to make it in any industry, including web hosting.

It's very random really, Nextbox was a very successful company and was paying out quite nicely to the partners, but unfortunately certain circumstances forced us to close, or otherwise lose a lot of money to put into it ourselves, in some major clients that were scamming us. So unfortunately you can never know, I hope to get back in the game shortly, but I'm not sure I want to.

I will try in all honesty to keep my web services up for as long as possible. I mainly do this for fun, but I've discovered it's much more than that, the websites I host are blogs, forums and websites which express what people are feeling, they can do this privately without anyone close to them knowing. It just feels good to provide a service which gives an opportunity to start websites which express feelings such as this.

I love Vlexo.com, I 'hope' to last a long time, I mean the bills aren't a problem and I have a partner which I work with and trust, so it's all good, so if I'm not here, at least my partner can continue our legacy. I have proper backups for fundings and all that and my motive is set to succeed.
