Why didn't you just stop the leak? You know, turn off the water supply as soon as you find the leak.

Well the funny thing is that we are not losing water pressure and we put a new meter in. We had no idea that there was a leak until we got the water bill.

How do you manage that ??
You cant get water for free in the UK either, infact even people who decide they will collect rain water in big ruddy tubs and clean it have to pay a rain tax ........

You pay for the electricity used to heat that free water :)
Water is Quebec's natural goldmine. 90% of our electricity is made form water.

Free water= well water. I have 3 wells on my property. They each get about 4 gal / min.

I think the UK would charge a rain tax still, you would need planning permission to build a well in the first place so they would know about new ones, I'm not sure how they would know about ones that exist already but I'm almost certain they do.

No not a joke.
I can't find any information on it except http://deesings.livejournal.com/tag/city+politics which makes it look like the same thing happens in the USA, theres a more concise description of what the tax is there .......

That's gay. They can't charge for something that comes out of the sky.
What if you get drenched, do you have to pay the gov for getting wet clothes :p.
Talking about water, it's raining like CRAZY here! Wouldn't be surprised if we were flooded by the end of the day.

Agreed with Colin. Been raining here non-stop since 7AM at least. Heavy rain. The bottom of a road I walk home on is at least a foot deep. Thankfully I got a lift. I was drenched when I got home 10mins ago, but now schools out for the summer, and I have 6 weeks befiore I start GCSE.

Our water bill is only like $60/monthly.
But our electricity is like $300/mo.

Only time I have ever had to pay for water was when I lived in town. Its usually pennies on the gallon.. Its not much at all. Most cities and towns are incorporated townships and water requirements for citizens far exceeds the use of back yard wells. Wells would pretty much be impossible to have and keep maintained in the city anyways. The money you pay is basically a fee for having the water pumped to your house.
As far as rain water being filtered and taxed?? Never heard of such a thing.. They don't tax wells here. Wells depend on rain to keep the water table at a decent capacity. So rain tax doesn't make much sense. You do have to pay a significant amount of money and have the required permits to dig a well. By the time you have a well dug and begin to use it, you have probably paid for a lifetime of water in the city.
