So I'm wondering what to do.

I bought this car radio months ago and I want to install it on the mother's car now.
I bought it off ebay along with all the necessary things to install it; the plastic panel for the dash and wiring harness.

Thing is I didn't verify something closely upon receiving the product. I got shipped 2 wiring harnesses. One for 86-91 yr old cars and one for 99+. Nothing for the 96 I requested for.

I'm wondering if either one will fit, maybe those two types are the only ones for that car?

I'm trying to make up my mind if I should install it myself, or bring the whole thing to a best buy so they install it themselfs in case those 2 harnesses I have don't fit.

Anyone ever took his car to bestbuy for them to install the radio? How much was it? No speakers/amp/sub. Just the head unit.

I've never taken it to a Best Buy, but at Circuit City just the head unit was $60. My brother worked there and got me some kind of discount though, not sure how much.

While I have taken my car to Bestbuy to have the radio installed, I cannot tell you how much I paid since I purchased the radio from them, so installation was free. But I can tell you that they did a good job, no complaints, and they told me exactly what they were doing the entire time.

So I decided to do it myself. Turns out its more time consuming then I originaly though :p

Halfway there. Radio plugged in and working. Now just have to figure out how to attach it and reasemble everything.

Can you believe I had to take off the glovebox and the whole under steering wheel panels to get to some place in order to unhook climate control cables to be able to take off the center trim in front of the radio. Geez :p

Will finish off tomorow, no more sunlight now :(

Car stereos are actually pretty easy to install if you like taking things apart. Some cars are easier than others, but I've down a few dozen plus maybe a dozen amps/subs and know almost nothing about cars.

If you are not 100% comfortable though, don't feel bad taking it somewhere. Paying $50 to get it done right is much better than what you'll pay patching up electrical mistakes ;)

Took me half an hour to put back everything together yesterday :)

For a grand total of 6 hours including two trips to the store for the harness and electric cable twisty connectors :p

Taking apart = 4 hours
Store Trips = 1 hour
Connecting and testing = 0.5 hour
Putting back together = 0.5 hour

Now that I know my way around I'll be able to eventually take the thing apart in half an hour to install the sub cables. Someday.

I'll post a picture of the radio tomorrow.
