Cpanel is WAY better. I just got a free linux vps for plesk at 1and1.com and I can't even operate the thing. What do you think about this?

Plesk is just fine in my opinion.

Plesk is fine. It's just more people prefer cPanel. To be honest, I really don't mind using plesk, DA, or cPanel. To me, they're all the same.

The free VPS offer isn't really free... "3 months free, then $ 29.00 / month.
The minimum contract term is 12 months."
I hope you get more familiar with Plesk and start to like it.

Plesk is good. However, many people prefer cPanel over Plesk.

Plesk is just very different from cPanel, that's all. You're probably quite used to cPanel, and would likely find it hard to switch to any other cp.

cPanel is more user friendly and loaded with much more features, but plesk is (IMO) much more reliable and stable than cPanel.

I think Cpanel is easier to operate than Plesk or other control panels.

I like Plesk better but the bundled antivirus really screws with stuff :P

I hate Plesk. Any time I have to deal with Plesk at work I die a little inside.
Some things, theoretically, are set up much better in Plesk - where user's files are kept, the fact that users each have their own httpd.conf files, that kind of thing. But everything else is just a major pain in the ---. QMail is absolutely horrible - it doesn't log anything anywhere near as well as Exim. It's almost impossible to find anything in Plesk's control panel, especially when you're used to cPanel. And it's way too friendly - there should be a small amount of pain and confusion in a user's experience of a hosting control panel. Maybe that way they'll be too intimidated to mess with things, and then I don't have to clean up after them. :p

Cpanel has its annoyances too, such as small bugs in which configuration files get corrupted. Trying to modify the username of an account for example, messes up the virtual host in the httpd.conf file. I'm not sure if it's still doing this, but it's been doing that for a while.
Also a lot of customers get confused by cPanel's error messages. If a client wants to add an addon domain and something goes wrong, he doesn't want to see any crap regarding "httpd.conf and bind and blabla", he simply wants to know why it didn't work. Most of the support tickets we get are related to cPanel spawning errors at customers which they do not understand. cPanel developers need to learn the difference between the system administrator operating WHM, and the client or end-user operating the cPanel front-end. A client generally has no technical knowledge, so why show them error messages filled with technical details? It makes no sense at all.
I received many complaints about this from users.

Cpanel has it's faults, but in my opinion it is head and shoulders above Plesk. As far as Direct Admin, that seems to be one that has cPanel's number.

Plesk operates differently
They have a good share of the windows hosting market

I used Plesk at some point and I really didn't like it.
CPanel is my preferred option over other control panels.

I think they should completely rewrite cPanel from scratch by the time they release version 12.

I am still getting charged by 1and1.com although I canceled it. Lame.

Call them and never buy anything from 1and1 again. ;)
