It's codename is 'vienna', i thought it's going to be 'blackcomb'.
At first people call windows vista as 'longhorn', but then Microsoft change it to vista.

That's why newest computers (coming out soon, or are already coming out) will have a max. capacity of 6 Gigabytes rather than four. However, XP can only see up to four, lame.

so, do you mean even if the motherboard support up to 8gb ram, xp will only able to read the maximum 4 gb of ram?

Iyeru, Mac Pro can address 8 GB. Addressing is a property of 32-bits, that can address maximum of 4 GB. (Other limits, such as 3 or 3.2 GB, are properties of Windows or motherboard.)
64 bit can address 16 Petabytes, or something like that. (2^32 times more than 32 bit)

Exactly, it has nothing to do with XP. 64 Bit XP would recognize more than 4gb of ram.

Well, it really all depends on the slots you have, right? I have good 'ol DDR1. *sighs*

If I'm going to use windows, I'm fine with XP. For a while there the tech market was growing so fast it made sense that people needed a new OS every three years or so, but now it's evened out. Microsoft is going to have to find a new model to make money, because a lot of people are staying with XP and I agree that there's nothing really new that we need. Maybe a better mobile version of windows though, but I really like QNX more.

Why are they still bothering, Vista has not had the impact previous versions have. Would be nice if they just got a working one, XP is fine for me and will be for some time to come, possibly changing to Vista as it is better supported and more stable.
Windows 7 in 3 years - why? What is so wrong with other versions they feel the need to change 'again' so soon?

If I remember right, 7 is going to be a revolutionary OS with no start bar.

Ya know! Everytime I sit down and settle in with my operating system, MS shoves out another one. Can't they let me finish up with XP, get Vista when it is all sorted and working properly, and THEN tell us about a new OS?
 cheers

6 Years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows#History) actually. Since Windows XP was released in 2001.
Also good news for XP Users:
Mainstream support for Windows XP will continue until April 14, 2009 and extended support will continue until April 8, 2014.

I would hope it would be something like that in 3 years
Very sad if we are all still using the same systems we have now..

Vista isn't having an impact at all really, from what I can see.
Usually when a new windows version comes out all the computers everywhere I go are running it in 3 months. Vista is either a late bloomer or a steaming pile of Micro$hit.
Decker

It's a pile of steaming bits no one really needs, XP with toys. I've seen nothing in it that says it's a great leap forward. Preloading to RAM is the exeption but only if you have loads of it.
So where would Windows 7 go on from there?
No more harddisks! Liquid substrate memory required? Synaptic interfacing! (Any MS employee or anyone else that uses these ideas in whole or part owes me an absolute fortune all right reserved copyright me including all intelectual.....yada yada it's in all your contracts)
Nah, probably another unusable interface until the lobotomy sets in and someone makes a theme where the sun rises and sets.

The next version will probably all be touch screen, like the iphone. The future of computing will be smudgy and portable.
