Hey all, its gamez here - I am thinking about starting up my own file hosting service, abit like your http://www.savefile.com

I plan to restrict files upload to only a few. (.gm6,.gmk,.gmd,.zip and some image types) - The files that start with 'gm' - stand for Game Maker, - this is a game making software, and will be the main people using it (this aren't harmful since you need the main software to actually run it)

I also plan to have a blog section, where registered members can have they own page, to showcase their creations, once again there will be no html or php - or any other codes that can be harmful, this is to make my life easier and the person who hosts me.

I am full aware of the security problems, which is why most host dont do this, but I am cutting out every file that can be harmful - but only have GM and image and zip files uploaded, and the blog system will contain only BBcode.

The reason why i posted here, is because i wanted to find out a few questions.

Whats the best (free) way to go about doing this?
How many posts/ads, do you think a good host will ask for? (one that one do down tomorrow)
I will require large amounts of bandwidth and space, what do you think is best? (I am not planning on going all huge - as in not major amount of bandwidth, like 100gb, 10000gb)
Do you have or know a host which will discuss with me, so we can sort out a deal on hosting?
Is there still room for hackers?

Thank you all for your help.

Sounds like a great idea, but are you sure this game maker software is popular enough to fill your space?

For point 1, your doing it now :classic2:, good start by asking the questions first.

Point 2 & 3 are related to one another, but the part about
I am not planning on going all huge means hosts may back off as ads wouldn't get much for them.

Point 4, sit and wait someone might come along and offer to discuss it.

Point 5 - as long as it's hacks for the games and not in general :fangel:

I've seen some of the games made with Game Maker and some are quite good, but it does take some work so good luck with this, any other info you can post would help your search too :-)

Thanks for your replies, I have edit the question 3 a bit - when i said i am not going all big, i meant space wise - there is room for advertising space, but I am not ask for 100gb, 10000gb bandwidth - thats what i meant.

Its all pretty safe, since its not a general hosting, but GM and image file hosting.

Do you have any idea on space requirements and possible download amounts?

This free host offers 25GB / 250GB - Space / Bandwidth.
PHP,mySQL,FTP,cPanel
AND NO ADS!
! g o t f r e e . c o m (http://---------------)

As this is in discussions - no domain name? That's an IP link.

The domain name http://--------.com does work (same site) so what's the deal with spacing it out and using IP? Unless you have a reseller and are trying to cheat usage stats

Ah found out why the domain name is not listed properly - it's banned.

Well it wont be the biggest thing at first, people will have to come to terms with it, however I am thinking 150mb Space, 1gb Bandwidth(monthly) - these could be upgrade for cash amounts, its like offer web hosting, but with no cpanel, maybe a free control panel system, where i can restrict .php and stuff like that.

I'm open to discuss this with you, If you've got any questions abot our website KwiX just ask me below. Before that i've got a few questions:

1. How much space and bandwidth would you require for your account?
2. What are you willing to do for your website? Ads, Posts, Textlinks?
3. Will there be any illegal content hosted? Will you try to crack down on it if there is any?

I'm willing to offer you what you need for the right answers.

I remeber Kwix, i have trouble making new posts on your forum, however I could just make posts.

1. I am looking a the largest amoung a free host is willing to give out. In GB
2. Well I can make posts, and have a textlink on my homepage
3. Only legal content, if you check my first post, I will be having a limited amount of file types supported. The host is meant mainly for GM (http://gmc.yoyogames.com) - it will host games made with that software

Yeah, we fixed that problem a while back now.

1. I could offer you about 1.5GB Space, 40GB Bandwidth (Maybe could do more)
2. Thats fine
3. Thanks for that.

Is that ok?

Yea, Kwix thanks very much - I will get in contact with you once I manage to get a domain - then me can move forward.

However, I still have trouble making a new topic at the forum - also what are the chances of more space, and how many posts - do I have to make.

Ok, the space can be arranged. I'll have to think about the arrangments etc.
