I'm fed up with this, its retarded. I installed it the other day, set it all up. Then 404'd when I make packages. Asked for support, they did nothing then installed a previous version and managed to get it to work. Then when I thought everything was ok, it randomly white screened people when trying to signup and when they did...it wouldn't even let me accept the account in the admin panel. So my advice to anyone, if your going for a script. Pick ModernBill or WHMCS.

Are you using a beta version?
I have been using CE for over 5 years, never once had any problems. Also note that if you have several domains that point to the billing system only 1 will work, its one domain per licenses.
Sorry to see you are having so many problems, it is a very nice set of software though.

WHMCS all the way
Hi,
I also use WHMC and it is a stunning example of software, but I am surprised ClientExec did not work for you - it was definately my second choice.
Then 404'd when I make packages. Asked for support, they did nothing then installed a previous version and managed to get it to work.
That's my exact thoughts with ModernBill 4 - I had much better luck with ModernBill 4 than ModernBill 5.
Best wishes

Modernbill feels clunky... We used AWBS which we liked alot about but disliked the templating system since it has to be built into your site.
Otherwise, we run CE and no issues. Wish it had many of the features that AWBS has but otherwise it works pretty well.

As others have said... maybe you are using the beta version. What version are you having problems with?

I don't really know whats up with it, i've tested it with PHP 4 and 5, installed the newest version not Beta and it was doing this. The license is to my domain.

I don't like client exec either although I did offer it for my resellers at one time. Client Exec to me didn't make sense no matter what I did. I like Modern Bill 4(Currently Using It), whmcs, & WHM Auto Pilot only.

Open a ticket with CE, they offer support, let them figure it out ;) haha.

Yeah CE does at times "feel" a little on buggy side. Used it for 6 months and it did brill but gave it up when WHMCS came along as it was much less of a headache.

I'll go with WHMCS. I've used ClientExec, its great for first 2-3 months. I've had a lots of problems wit it. Sometimes a file oes missing automatically, sometimes the cron cannot find the installation and says file install.php is missing.
Lots of trouble. Another disadvantage of CE is that its very very slow. I have web host whose mainly clients are from India, but users are mostly having dialup or other slower connections an it takes few minutes to load up! WHMCS all the way. Loads in seconds. Fastest I've ever seen. Even MB isnt that fast!

Try to avoid Modernbill5. If you really want Modernbill go for v4. However, they will probably end development of v4 soon because they keep working on v5 (which is the worse software package ever made).
WHMCS is good because it's simple. But that advantage can also be a disadvantage: It's TOO simple and too basic. It'll do what you need to get started, but once you want to do more with your company you'll be expecting more features from your billing software, which is where WHMCS can't help you. Also, don't expect to be able to modify WHMCS by adding functionality: Almost all of it is encoded, there's no way to alter anything.

Agree with RadixHosting... look at WHM AutoPilot, its was really basic and a good software... everyone seemed to be switching to it.. then all of a sudden development slowed down and it took them 2 years to release a new version... which happened to have no features and was more like a downgrade... if anyone can still remember their disappointment when installing the new version.. to find out it wasnt worth effort ...
I used clientexec when it first came out and it seemed pretty good.. but it always had troubles updating details when i changed them and pressed update.. just showed the old details again and again... reminded me of the old perlbill script... in other words... felt cheap and feisty.
WHMCS may look the way forward at the moment and i really hope they notice what happened to their competitors and dont make the same mistakes... it recently went to v3/3.2 and its still working fine and fast so lets hope they keep it up.. but i cant help feel by the time it reaches version 4 or 5 (like modernbill) it may be massive... laggy and full of bugs.
lets hope not tho :D

ModernBill all the way, it maybe a bit harsh at the beginnin with the setup, but i assure you, its the dream you never dreamed which you want to dream, actually its a good dream.
I'm using it, its awesome features!

When the company frows bigger, it should prefer a custom billing system, as all the systems in the market are not perfect for all types of hosting companies. MB is targetted to larger companies while WHMCS is better for medium.
Have not used WHMAp, but CE is for no use. Thats better shut down :D

A nightmare more likely. ;) But which Modernbill are you talking about? Version 4 or 5?
There's a HUGE difference.

Agree that something about CE is annoying. I had tried it at least a year ago though.
