Hey guys and erm, Girls too.
I installed Linux on my PC last night and deleted Windoze.
Now, I have a few questions for you Gurus.
1. Where can I find a program to open .exe files and also zipped or compressed files for Linux?
2. Where can I find a compatible image creation/editing software for Linux? Something like Photo Shop etc?

1. WINE if you mean run MS .exe's, plenty of free compression proggies just Google that one.
2. GIMP is your best bet there.

I agree with Decker. Can anyone recommend a really flashy linux (very good appearance, like mac OS) ? Looking to install linux again and wondering what people recommend.

Ubuntu has a nice gui, and from my experience, it runs similar to mac os. I hear beryl has nice effects and whatnot.

You need to run wine from a terminal. It'll still run in the GUI, just open up an xterm or something, cd to where the file is, and type "wine xyz.exe".
For the zipping ... http://lowfatlinux.com/linux-zip-unzip.html

Did that and nothing seems to have changed.
Also installed winetools and nothing is different. Any ideas?

wine xyz.exe
should open the program xyz.exe. Try a program that does not need to be installed first.

Ubuntu is the best one out there.
To find a specific program in console:
apt-cache search <program name here>
then:
sudo apt-get install <program name here>

Maybe you could dual boot if you want to use linux, it's what I do.

Try Sam Linux, it's based on PC Linux OS, but uses the XFCE enviroment instead of KDE.

Dan, what "flavor" of Linux did you try?

Dan: Sorry to hear that. But, eh, your choice.
utcrazy: Well, if you want something easy to use, try Ubuntu. You can add on Beryl/Compiz later, and add themes to Gnome to make it flashy. If you go for ubuntu, I recommend going to MicroSeconds or some other secondhand computer store, buying a cheap desktop 500mhz or more, with at least 128mb of ram, and installing something like Slackware as a minimalistic install, then going through the steps of doing everything manually (enabling network connectivity, securing it, setting up various types of servers, etc, whatever you're curious about), with installation and configuration of the GUI being last. This way you have a really easy linux distro for everyday stuff on your main computer, but you also have a test mule computer that you can use to learn about all the inner workings of linux. I'm in the process of doing this, and I'm learning 100X more things than I did if I just installed a GUI or tried to learn through my laptop running ubuntu.

Wow you went for one of the toughest in the books. Congrats :P.
Start with Ubuntu if you want a Debian based Linux, or Fedora Core 7 if you want a Red Hat. I recommend Beryl for Ubuntu, really nice. And if you want something with all the bells and whistles, and all kinds of picture, video, and music editing, ripping, and burning progs, then get Ubuntu Studio, it's a 1.4GB ISO I believe, and only comes in a single DVD form of download.

Wow going high up there.. Yea like the rest said go Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com). I am a fan of ubuntu GNOME. This will give you GIMP and all that. Plus ubuntu has a great community (http://ubuntuforums.org)of people that are great at helping you. I thought it was hard at first too. Then went there and learned a lot. You can't give up on stuff like this.
Really you will find its a lot easier. It has a package manager that you can download stuff right off of there. Also you can download stuff with a simple code like
sudo apt-get amarok
Also since its open source problems are fixed faster because you don't need to wait for a couple people. Plus a lot of ideas are brought together.
http://www.whylinuxisbetter.net/ read some of that. It has great facts about linux and is quite humorous.
If you have any questions let me know. I'm fairly good at n00b related questions. Just please get rid of windows. I hate Micro$oft.

Ubuntu is good, but will never replace my Vista Ultimate. There's still too much linux can't do.

What things can't linux do? The only thing I can think of that is big is play games. But with running Wine you can. however if you are a big gammer then I would suggest windows anyhow.

Get rid of SUSE and install Ubuntu. Try to avoid using Wine, there are alternative software packages available for almost every Windows application.
