This would be fantastic. Having a large company developing a linux distro would be a big step forward. especially with google. I still think the only way Linux is going to compete with microsoft seriously though, is for it to be a commonly installed OS on computers prior to distribution - we are seeing signs of this, but nothing massive yet.

Dell, the biggest computer manufacturer, doing it is pretty massive if you ask me.

But if there's a company that's going to launch linux into the mainstream then it's google.

But dell only do it on certain lines etc...

If there was an option (as there is for almost all products with xp/vista) to have Linux as the pre-installed OS for that machine - THAT would be massive :P
(thats the ideal though :( I think it'll take a while to happen)

But you are right about google.
