Okay.

My computer just randomly restarted itself.

It's been doing it a lot lately.
It never used to.

I thought it was something to do with my webcam at first, because every time I clicked on the "Start me Webcam" thing in Yahoo Messanger... the computer would just flick off and restart.

But now it does it just totally randomly.

I'll be sitting here typing something... and WHOOS... it's restarted.

Anyone know whats up with it? Thanks.

How long do you leave your computer on for?

Long time... :D

I thought it could be something to do with over heating or something, but sometimes it does it after just being on for a few hours?

Just last time it did it... humm... okay... so about 10 hours or so.

When i bought a new computer, there were some random restarts at any time, some times when i am using my tv tuner, sometimes when connecting to internet, and so on.
When i formatted and installed a clean copy of a new OS, it just worked good without any reboots.
So i dont think its a hardware problem. But every computer have diffirent mood and style of living :D

i leave my computer on 24/7... and i have done a few formats so i think its a hardware problem

i think its because my vid card is 16MB and i do too much media so it cant handle it

Anyway, random reboots are usually signs of a faulty or underpowered power supply. Try replacing it or getting a larger one.

Maybe he could edit his BIOS settings. I'm not sure what you could edit but there is all sorts of stuff in there that can sort all sorts of weird problems. I had my ADSL modem disconnect me after about 2 minutes of connecting to the internet but all I had to do was to enable enhanced chip performance in the BIOS. Maybe that would solve this problem too. As Bruce said it could be because the system is underpowered. It shouldn't blow up your computer so I would give it a go.

Have you upgraded your OS lately?
Has it been doing it since the upgrade?

If you answered yes to both of these questions you should upgrade the drivers for your video card, sound card, modem and anything else like that. This might fix your problem.

I had that problem when my power chord to the HDD was loose. I pushed the cable in tight and it was fine.

mine works perfectly so far, and hope no problems will occur. Maybe I take good care of the plug. I switch off the main switch after I use my comp.
